This restaurant purports to be a truck stop, and to a certain extent it is, being situated close to a major trunk road. It has within it immaculate no frills seating capacity for at least 150 people and it is extremely popular at lunch time. The meal is priced at 13 euros for three courses and these consist of an entree from a very well stocked buffet, a choice of four or five main courses, a pizza or a complete galette, and finally a desert/ cheese buffet followed by coffee. All of the above is accompanied by a bottle of either house wine or cider and water. A word of warning there is very little English spoken!
While on an overnight stay in Avranches we ventured to this Routiers. We had a great meal, we had a Kir each to start, then on to a large buffet of starters to choose from, then we were presented with a menu of hot Plat du jours to choose from, followed by cheese and desserts and coffee, there was a litre bottle of wine on the table to help yourself to. great value all for 13 euros per person, I would highly recommended this restaurant.
Having been to this restaurant when it was a tiny house, they have built on a huge new extension. Everything from the loo's to the restaurant is clean, bright and very smart. The meal was wonderful, a big buffet for your starters, 4 different Plat du jours, cheese and then desserts, ad lib wine all for 13 euros, highly recommended
varied choice for the entrance buffet, with good products. The dish was very good and consistent. we have the choice for dessert between everything that composes the showcase you are sure to find your happiness. We have visited Le Grand Chien several times over the years and it remains consistently good value for money offering a selection of hearty and tasty French no frills cuisine. It is a very popular lunch time destination for local workers, truck drivers etc. Recommended.
