DINED AT LUNCH TODAY SATURDAY 16 SEPT 2023 and going back tomorrow…loveky setting ,a recommendation by a local French lady we met ,ignore the Google reviews at 3.9 it should be 4.9….the food is outstanding as good as we’ve eaten anywhere and I would include the George’s V in Paris,L,enclume in Cartmel,The Ritz London …equally sits with all these places.I had Cochon facon,it was delicious cooked sublimely with a lovely presentation and sauce,my wife had her first fish dish in a week Sole ,filleted in the kitchen ,her only complaint too me was I wanted more lol….Pavlova desert…6 stars,it’s not a burger,pizza restaurant neither is it trying to be,so one Swiss reviewer said it was expensive,well...
On the plus side, the location on the sand on Arinella beach, with a view across the rocks to Calvi, is stunning. The service is also very good. On the other hand, the quality of the food, while good, was not amazing, considering what it costs. When you're asked to pay 34 euros for two small strips of sea bass, you can't help feeling that they're taking the mickey. A dinner for 4 cost us 295 euros, which is literally twice as much as any good restaurant in Calvi. Only eat here if money is no object.
We drove 3h from Ajaccio to visit Calvi and L'Île-Rousse. But we also want to visit the Le Matahari because it was recommend by our travel guide. And everything was fine. The service was fast and kind, the food also really fast and absolutely delicious And the Ambiente is great Its directly at the beach and you can sit on the beach and look at the Ozean while you eat a great meal. We highly recommend this restaurant without any complaints.
The restaurant is located directly on the beach, creating a great atmosphere and offering a great view for sunset. The food quality is very good, whether the eggplant millefeuille, the sole or the chocolate cake. We were disappointed with the quality of the faux filet , which was overcooked and not that tasty. Beautiful restaurant to have dinner directly on the nice beach of Arinella, in the gulf of Calvì, in front of the Citadel. Really nice to put naked feet in the sand or in the water… The restaurant is not cheap, but the food is very good and the price uplift for the lovely atmosphere is fair. People very kind too (at the closure, they also provide hard bread to kids to bring the fishes near the beach). Very advised.
This is everything that you’d want in a top class beach restaurant. The location is of course perfect but the team here maximise that advantage. The decor and table decoration are impressive but the food even more so. The maitre d’ is also charming and nothing is too much trouble. The food is elegantly presented and tastes brilliant. What’s not to love about this place… a gem.
We had lunch whilesunbating on the beach. Food was really amazing. We tried tuna and stirred vegatables, mint and ricotta ravioli, pasta with lemon sauce, tempura, dessert. Everything was really special. The restaurant is eco-chic style quite informal. Hugely recommenes place. Very romantic for dinner.
Matahari is as much about the setting as it is the food. Sunset on the beach is not to be missed, and the friendly staff help make it a memorable evening. We'd hired a scooter to explore around and came across this absolute gem. The place is utterly amazing from the relaxed atmosphere, the decor and the friendly and helpful staff. Probably the best meal I've had. It was delicious. Cannot rate it high enough. A little piece of heaven.
