Recommended to us by the receptionist of our B&B masquerading under the title of a hotel.... Unfortunately, we had to drive here due to an absence of a decent taxi service but do not let this put you off far from missing an aperitif and a drink with the meal, it made the whole thing so much more enjoyable!!! Maybe I will go teetotal!! All I had wanted in the months before coming to Oléron was some excellent oysters and a good fish plainly cooked to experience the wonderful taste of fresh fish properly cared for by a great chef. Got it in spades.... Did not book having expected to be eating at the “hotel” but was accommodated and looked after by some wonderful people for whom are spluttering...

Some say one should never go back but this place is an exception. Always great food and service at reasonable prices with local produce. Suitable for fish, meat or vegetarian eaters. Great local wines. Plenty parking but you do need to book in high season. Inside, terrace or by the edge of the étang if they are full. Local market Wednesday and local salt works right by it. Been quite a few times, evenings and lunch, and the menu continues to change slightly enough to keep it interesting and the quality is always very good. My three top restaurants on Isle D'Oleron and this is one of them.

I am also agreeing with Eckky from London, we went to this restaurant in September 2017. We were staying on the island and there are other excellent restaurants, we decided to try it as we had not eaten, We were driving past when returning to our Hotel in Saint-Trojan-les-Bains. Firstly we were told that we could only sit outside as they were full (it was a cold evening), they were almost empty, they do not like adults either. The food was very overated and my fish was raw, so I could not eat the main course. I was told by the lady that that is the french way!

We've been here quite a few times and it is always excellent. The welcome/service/choice/ quality has always been excellent. Very busy in season so book in advance. Wednesday's has a craft market and the spice man has a great selection of spice combinations.(curry vert is my favourite. Le Relais change their menu regularly, they source local wines and ingredients and the fish is superb especially the oysters which are of course local. Just book and go!
