This little gem was in an alley way just around the corner from our accommodations in Antibes and they specialized in paella which was made fresh to order. The restaurant will prepare the paella for 2, 4, 6 or 8 people and if you call ahead and let them know what you want it can be customized to a certain extent with a variety of ingredients such as seafood, chicken and sausage. First the place; it is small and cozy in a rustic decor reflecting its Spanish heritage. In general L'Ecureuil Espagnol makes you feel like you wondered off the streets into some little hole in the wall gem that is a well kept secret with the locals. Great Start. This may be great or this may be bad but there is some...

Nothing worked. 1. The tablecloth was dirty when we came, the waitress didn't bother to take it away, instead she just put a clean one on top. 2. We ordered a bottle of Rosé, we only got it in the middle of the main course and only after complaining. 3. The wine was terrible and not even chilled. Warm rosé, never experienced anything like this! 4. We went as a couple, one meal was served 15 minutes before the other one. I had already finished my meal when my wife's meal came. 5. The quality of the food was slightly below average at most. 6. The big salad consisted of a careless mix of vegetables and fruits, without any dressing whatsoever. 7. Service was slow, clumsy, even basics didn't work...
Came here for Valentine's Day dinner (reserve in advance; the resto was fully booked that evening). I'm vegan, my partner isn't; when we'd called to reserve, we let them know that and offered to make a vegan paella but that it would be for both of us (i.e., my boyfriend couldn't order his own meaty paella, but that wasn't a problem for us). We were served our dish quickly, the owners seemed quite organised that evening. The paella was very yummy, with nice tender veggies, and was definitely a generous portion. The owners were friendly and the restaurant is small/cosy, as so many restos in Antibes are. Happy with the experience.
We have eaten at this restaurant a couple of times now and are going again tonight. There are lots of places to eat in antibes but this little place offers a unique service usually with the chef getting involved with the ordering. They obviously buy in fresh produce and although meet what is on the menu will give you advice on what they have and specialities of the house. You can pre order Paella which is delicious but then so is every thing else. It's authentic honest fresh food and the ambiance is typically Spanish French fusion - if there is such a thing. Booking is advisable. Reserva una mesa ahora
As travellers we often find ourselves eating at late hours. I was initially happy to see the late opening hours and we arrived 45minutes before closing time. Unfortunately were received with a lot of attitude saying they won't serve us and that we should reserve in advance if we want to eat late.Sorry I come from a country where businesses respect the opening times they post online and receive their guests with a minimum of good manners .
We ordered Paella Marinera after 30mins’ wait. It wasn’t mind-blowing, but OK. The rice was correctly flavoured, however the fish was bland. Altogether, for the price, it was underwhelming. However, Antibes is not exactly teeming with authentic spanish cooking, so in that sense it’s well worth a try. And who knows, may be we chose the least interesting dish from the menu
Just happened on the restaurant as it was opening. Must have gotten the last table because it filled up soon thereafter. They specialize in paella and it is with good reason. A steaming hot, large and delicious serving appeared in front of me and soon disappeared. Food is very good, service and prices are reasonable
You order paella at time of reservation. You get there, order sangria, and your food is out soon after. Waiting staff is very attentive. Amazing and inexpensive! Reserva una mesa ahora
