We were attracted to the nice looking yard and tables with white tablecloth. The female waitress got us a table quick but we didn’t feel welcome. We had some questions about food and beverages and tried to make a conversation but the waitress was not polite and made us feel stupid. Should we go to another place? We decided to stay, laughed about here bad attitude and thought about all the polite people we met during the last days instead. Food was heavy and not really our style. We only ordered one main course each and the waitress also showed how unhappy she was about this.
The food was pretty bad, tuna tartar as a starter tasted really bad and the burger(main) was incredibly overcooked. But the time spent waiting was our main problem. We waited 45min for our starters and 1hour for our mains. After I payed I told the old lady(boss) that there was something wrong with the tuna tartar and that she should probably taste it and figure it out, but she just told me they served hundreds of tuna tartar’s everyday and never got any complains. Either way, their food tasted like sh#t and the wait felt like watching an italian opera. Stay away.
Since most restaurants are closed le lundi, we ended up at Les Caudalies with not too high expectations. And were surprised. We experienced really fine dining in the classical French way without any of the modernistic fuzz. We had Foie gras as a starter (maybe the figue compot a little too sweet), carefully cooked Coquilles St. Jacques, fillet of turbot and praliné millefeuille to finish. Good wine list besides the regional Chamoagne wines. Recommended, not only on lundi soir.
My family and I visited this restaurant recently on our way to Switzerland. It is a beautiful building and the staff were lovely and trying very hard but the actual food was so mediocre. The cost was astronomical. We left most of it apart from my husband who enjoyed his turbot. We are used to fine dining and wanted to give our children a really special French experience but this certainly was not it! I still cannot get over how much we had to spend here!
