Les Nympheas - Reservar una mesa

I arrived a whole hour before my timed entry to Giverny, so had coffee and croissant at Restaurant Les Nymphéas, directly behind Monet’s gardens. The hot coffee helped power me through the very cold morning. After several hours on the grounds and in the house, I had an excellent lunch there–Salade Monet was a large platter of tender young greens nearly obscured by shrimp, crayfish, asparagus, smoked salmon, mushrooms, and haricots verts, with a light vinaigrette. Plus four pieces of bread and butter. It was very pleasant sitting outside on the terrace. The service was friendly and efficient.

My wife and I were relaxing in Giverny on our last day in France, and we stopped at this charming restaurant. The service, food and outdoor ambiance were “tres bien!” I had Salmon ballotine with a basil crème sauce and accompanying greens, shredded vegetables and fresh mashed potatoes. My wife had a chicken Caesar salad. Both were “magnifique!”

We will not go back here. They seated us then promptly forgot about us. We had to wait 20 minutes to see the menu. The food was edible. The portions were generous. Two of our party saw two different waiters fail to wash their hands with soap after using the toilet. At the end, we had to ask for the bill twice and wait a long time again.

In hindsight, we should have packed a picnic lunch, be we didn't so we came here. The setting is beautiful and quaint. But the food and service, not worth the price. Family had a nice time so that's all that really matters.
