The trip to Les Truffieres, a small auberge located right in the heart of woodland high above the Cingle at Tremolat sets the scene but the warm welcome from jovial, bearded Yannick the chef proprietor gives reassurance that the journey was worth the effort! The small dining room with a huge fireplace is full of kitsch objects of global origin but in summer the eating is outside on a lawn overlooking his goats and donkeys. The menu is set and there is no carte to read, but for us comprised a kir fraise, generous portions of foie gras with its customary sea salt, sweet preserve and a glass of sweet wine, an extraordinary salad topped by nasturtiums and the best Magret de canard of our trip to...

We found this place via recommendation and have now dined there a few times. The food quality and service never varies, its always excellent and Yannick is an entertaining host. Many french restaurants call themselves an Auberge, without actually being one. Les Truffieres is the real thing, totally authentic, extremely quaint and quirky in every sense, and all this makes for a fabulous ambience.Booking is essential as Yannick only takes bookings for 5 tables. The place is never overcrowded and the staff have penty of time to be attentive. If you miss this on your next visit to the area, you are missing out on the very essence of old France. Give it a go, you wont be disappointed.

Much has been said about the wonders of French cooking but after 7 days in Paris and then Bordeaux, I was underwhelmed. It was until I arrived at Tremolat that things started to improve. First at the Bistro and then, based on hosts recommendation in Lalinde, my wife and I visited this remote little location in the forest. Easy to get to nevertheless, and we were welcomed by a stuffed monkey on a tractor directly in front of the parking area.Other posters have already commented, so suffice to say that the comments are not hyperbole: the food really is that good and the chef Yanick really is a lovely bear of a man.A rare and treasured experience - highly recommended!

On our third time of trying my wife and I managed to book a table the other times the restaurant was fully booked. The food is amazing and the staff are very friendly and helpful, the menu is mainly duck based, my wife ask for an alternative as she doesn't like duck and was given chicken which was very nice however when she tried a small piece of my duck she really liked it, I thought it taste more like fillet steak it was melt in your mouth beautiful.Having eat at Les Truffieres I now know why it's so hard to get a table even in September. We will definitely return if we can get a table

Unbelievable experience. If you are anywhere near Tremolat and don't visit here for dinner then you are wrong. The setting is an incredible farm where we were greeted by a howling donkey upon parking in front of the restaurant. The owner and operator of the restaurant is Yannic, an amazingly delightful individual who made us feel like we were friends over for dinner as opposed to visitors from 4000 miles away. The food was incredible, and the wine also provided a phenomenal pairing for the experience... of which we enjoyed a fair amount.

I loved this place. Beautiful garden, cats for snuggling, delicious food and a lovely cook and service! After we enjoyed the menu for the first time we made a reservation (recommended!) for another day. If you want to have the "tout canard" experience, you definitely get the best one there. Oh and of course a very nice selection of wines :) and dogs are welcome, too.

After reading the reviews, we went with high expectations, but they were surpassed by a wonderful evening with sublime food. The unique and quirky location is enhanced by Yannick's great skills as host, waiter, sommelier and chef. The food we had, from the Foie Gras to the Maigret de Canard was sensational.I can only echo the great reviews that have gone before.

Glad we booked in advance. We arrived for Sunday lunch on a beautiful sunny day and were made very welcome. We dined in the garden with donkeys in the field nearby and many quirky items in the garden and dining room. The food was wonderfully and there was plenty of it, you do not order Yannick serves the food he prepares, mostly based on Duck and Foie gras

Just like being invited into someone's home. Lovely surroundings, unpretentious and a little bohemian; complete with donkeys, goat, geese, cats and a gorgeous puppy! The food was the best we had on this trip and the service just great and so friendly. I love the concept that you get whatever the chef is cooking that evening! You have to go at least once!
