L'escale - Reservar una mesa

There are loads of harbour-front restaurants to choose from in Bonifacio so advice from TripAdvisor was needed. We eventually chose L'Escale and opted for the set menu. First course was a terrine and hubby had a salad. My terrine consisted of what appeared to be a tin of tuna flakes tipped on to a plate. The salad was tasteless. For main I opted for the steak which was, in fact, pretty good, tasty and well cooked. However it was served with poorly cooked frozen chips which added nothing to the dish. Hubby went for the tuna steak. It was raw. I know tuna should be served pink but it was not seared, had an unpleasant taste and was generally nasty. For safety's sake I decided to have the fruit salad for dessert which was pleasant but then it's hard to **** up a fruit salad! Hubby chose the Pomme Tarte. Tasteless apples, unpleasant pastry and a soggy bottom (The tart, not hubby!! If we wanted ice cream with our desserts, there was an extra charge. All in all, a most unsatisfactory experience, and a compete waste of 45euro.

A charming restaurant with a lovely view of the harbor. We came once and returned every day during our 4 day stay. The mussels in saffron sauce are a standout dish (Moules sauce saffron). Terrific salads, frites and plats du jour. Excellent service, friendly staff. Yohan, Dylain, Eloge and Mme Josette made us feel at home! Music on Thursday and Saturday evenings. Hang out in the bar for local color.

Good location Poor service. You pay 3 euro supplement for fresh squeezed juice over regular and then they give you half a glass of ice water with some fresh juice. We ordered pain au chocolat but got croissant. Supposedly because they ran out. Only to see new guests ordering and getting the chocolate breads.

The service. It was poor . If I was the owner I would be retraining staff. The location was excellent with good food let down by waiters. Sort it out and it could be great

Excellent location right by the harbour. We enjoyed a good meal of typical local cuisine. The service was friendly ans polite. All at a very fair price. We recommend it.
