These days, people associate the Latin Quarter with condos, chain restaurants and cafes, and summer festival events. However, until the early-mid 2000s, the Latin Quarter was filled with Bohemian jazz clubs, used bookstores, quirky shops, punks, and student pubs. Very helpful, likeable, bilingual cool-people work here, at the top of the skinny escalier (staircase). It's a great intro to the Montréal foodie/indie-art scene, with live performances and many beers, including volume discounts on pitchers.
