L'esplanade - Reserva de mesa

My son ordered the moules frites and when it arrived, it looked fine...until you got past the top layer of mussels and everything was still frozen. And when I mean frozen, I mean ice still clinging to the mussels (see photo). We pointed out to our server who I think may have been the owner that the mussels were frozen. She looked stunned and returned the pot back to the kitchen. About 10 minutes later, she returned the pot, thermonuclear hot. So hot that she could not even open the lid...so what does she do? She asked to borrow the napkins on our laps to open the lid. No apology and still charged for the plate of frozen mussels. Escoffier is rolling in his grave.

We were driving through Aniane en route further north and stopped here for coffee. It was served promptly by a pleasant waitress. Coffee was good and just how it should be. We came back through the town and stopped for a late lunch. The 3 of us chose to have omelette du jour. It was a vegetable one that day and excellent. Freshly cooked. The chips were piping hot straight from the pan crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The small salad served with was fresh and with a tasty dressing. The same waitress served us and was still smiling and pleasant after her busy mornings work.

We were recommended to try a particular restaurant in Aniane, but we arrived in town too early so decided to sit and have a drink first at L'Esplanade. We then made the foolish decision to stay and eat. Two very mediocre meals and an oversized bill later and we realised our mistake. When we were asked the following day if we had visited the recommended restaurant and we said no, the face of the lady said it all when we told her where did dine.

Bar-Restaurant de L'Esplanade d'Aniane au top ! Quiet and pleasant place where a great serenity reigns, beautiful frescoes inside painted by a local artist, and cherry on the cake a wonderful welcome by David Monique. We spent a couple of weeks in Aniane and enjoyed the welcome extended bye the staff at Bar l'Esplanade. Our daily excursions to access wifi were made enjoyable by an an aperitif and the occasional plat du jour, the latter being very tasty and excellent value.
