"The set menu was 20 E. Our host said it would be a surprise but it was mostly seafood( not liked by 2 members). The individual tapas were good but not substantial enough and very little bread was served. Deserts-only ice cream, no house wine- not good value"

Full disclosure: I've lived in the area for 15 years, eaten in all the restaurants in Lézignan, and this is my favourite, bar none. I've been there four times in the last month alone.First reason: Maria. Bubbling with energy, always welcoming you with a smile and, if you've been more than once, a kiss :) Regulars make themselves at home, fetching their own wine and settling in for an evening's chat. Note, Maria is Portuguese and also speaks French, Spanish, and a bit of German. But little to no English as far as I know.Second reason: Maria's food. I'm astonished by the reviewer who said they left feeling hungry. We usually have to tell her to stop, because we just can't eat any more. Everything is cooked fresh, by Maria. Note, she doesn't explain the menu very well. At 20 euros per head you'll get a succession of small dishes of whatever she's cooked that day. The French don't really do food intolerances, so if you are vegetarian, or allergic to seafood/fish/whatever, you need to tell her upfront, otherwise you might get something you don't like/can't eat. You can also pick and choose individual plates from the chill cabinet if you don't want a full meal. If you want more bread ... ask for it!Third reason: the wine. True, there's no house wine. But there are very reasonably priced bottles, starting around 12 euros. Maria's husband is an oenologist and the selection of wines is simply astonishing for Lézignan. It's the only place I've found locally where you can get Spanish wine, including such lesser known delights as Verdejo and Albariño, and there's a good selection of Loire and Côtes du Rhone wines -- also rare in this wine-producing area. I've never had a bad bottle there.Sorry I've gone on a bit, but Maria really deserves to succeed and she doesn't do enough self-promotion :) Note, currently it's only open Thursday-Saturday evenings, and there are only a few tables, so to be sure of a seat you need to be there by 8 (or call in and reserve).

We first started going to Lezignan in September 2016 and initially overlooked this tapas restaurant/bar. It is just off the main road down a side street and we stumbled in there on a hot market day for a cold beer. The owner Maria offered us some tapas which was some of the best food we have ever eaten (I am a vegetarian but managed to make this known and Marie was able to cater for me). We have been back several times and always book in advance to ensure that we can be seated. Maria is clearly passionate about the food she produces and each dish is a pleasant surprise. The daytime set menu is for 3 courses with an optional desert and some of the produce is from her own garden. Her husband's wine 'Chateau De Belle Isle' is also excellent. There are numerous other wines on offer.

this little place always surprises me. originally very fine for lunches and tapas is now developing into a fully braided dinner place Thursday to Saturday.) every evening awaits a varied evening meal. all fresh and cooked before the place! yesterday meal was Spanish ham with. a tomato mix on toast, a fine smooth cream suppe with fish, rub with bacalao and kartoffels, blanquette by kalb with risotto, cheese, tarte aux banane. all this for under 30 eur. service is fast and friendly.
