If you are looking for food that is "correct," that is, well-prepared and properly-served, an ambiance that is friendly and casual, and servers who are friendly, this is the place to go. This place is unpretentious, but everything they serve is delicious. Everyone in my picky, hard-to-please family found something they wanted to eat on the menu, and everyone was pleased with their choices when they arrived (we ate here three times over the course of a two week stay). Especially good are the moules frites, which are served on Friday evenings. Salmon carpaccio, salmon tartare, steak frites, omelettes, salads: my family and I also tried all of these and loved them. There are plenty of restaurants both in Beaumes-de-Venise as well as in the surrounding towns that attempt "haute cuisine" and don't really succeed. Lou Castelet doesn't pretend to be more than it is, but it succeeds magnificently at doing what it does.

Other than the pleasant terrace for a pastis or a coffee, this restaurant is to be avoided at all costs. It is ridiculously overpriced for the quality of food, the service is negligent and perhaps worst is the restaurant's attitude that everything they do is correct. Just try to suggest that your 21 euro steak is overcooked and see how they react!! And the 17 euro cheeseburger isn't worth more than the price of the ground beef inside! In addition, there is no "plat du jour" in summer so you can't hope of trying anything other than their standard menu. Do yourself a favour and take the time to find a more authentic restaurant.

The service and food were good (i.e., what is to be expected in an average French bistro). The outside atmosphere is pleasant but inside is a bit stuffy so plan on going when the weather is nice. There is ample free parking behind the restaurant. Our kids really like the place. The food portions are well sized (almost American sized portions).

Have visited here many times over the years. Food consistently well prepared, especially the omelets and salads. Friendly service and good value.
