We were enthusiastically recommended this restaurant and we had high expectations given the reviews on Tripadvisor. As everyone mentioned the setting is lovely and we were hoping for a great casual BBQ meal. I ordered an Entrecote steak which was luke warm, flat and full of grizzle and holes. I tried to eat it but gave up as it was unedible. My wife had Tuna which was OK but stone cold. The deserts were nothing special. The service was OK but not that friendly. I complained about the steak but the lady who served us said that people like their steak chewy. I disagreed and she said she would tell the chef. It wasn’t a bad experience at all, setting lovely, quite special. The service was a little slow (we had three small children and they didn’t really take this into account plus no kids menu although the place is full of families with young children) so we didn’t stay for dessert as it was taking too long to get the waiters attention (which happened numerous times). Where it went bad was that my husband and I got food poisoning. I emailed the management to inform them and they emailed back with a scolding, rude, sarcastic response. The most fantastic place to eat, under the walnut trees on the outskirts of La Roque Gageac, this restaurant was recommended to us by a charming young lady who was running the cafe du chateau in St Genies, we can't thank her enough, we ate under the trees on a lovely late June evening, the restaurant comprises of a wooden bar and a street food van, the food was top quality, the staff were wonderful and the ambience fantastic. We have eaten at dozens of Dordogne restaurants, this one is definitely in our top 3, and the best of any within a stones throw of the Dordogne river
Our friend Hector took us to Lou Toupi restaurant in La Roque-Gageac, France. The restaurant has an amazing ambiance that is both relaxing and intimate. Nestled amongst the trees in a charming village it boasts a picturesque setting by the Dordogne River and surrounding cliffs. The moment you step inside, you are enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere and the staff cannot do more to make you feel welcome. We will definitely come back again and strongly advise you to visit if you are in the area.
Fun atmosphere in a walnut grove with a view of La Rocque-Gageac in the distance. Extremely friendly and helpful staff! The duck was a little tough and lacking taste. The tuna was good but not out of this world. The Black Angus 1.6 kilo was shard by three of us and was very good rare (sanglante) but a little overpriced for the quality. I’m more used to US cowboy-aged ribeyes at this price point. Still w worth the visit!
We ate here on 2 occasions. This is a restaurant under a canopy in a field with food served from a van. This produced a good atmosphere. Food I would describe as rustic rather than ‘fine dining’, with mains a piece of meat and one side dish, well cooked. Tasty starters and pudding. Menu suited the location. Good place for an informal dining experience.
We had a magical experience in an orchard, eating exceptional food! Ambience is amazing- great, friendly energetic servers, great music and gorgeous views. Definitely not an average experience and if you are looking for burgers and chicken nuggets, this is not for you...
