This is our 2nd time visiting Mao's after a disappointing first experience I thought we'd give them a 2nd chance. Perhaps not.If you are looking for quality service and reasonable tasting food I'd suggest looking elsewhere. We waited at the front desk for 5 mins waiting to be seated in an empty restaurant whilst the take away orders took priority. Eventually we were seated and our orders taken. Meanwhile as a few other tables were seated (only 3 whilst we were there, not surprising) they all received their meals before us. Looking through menu looking at our usual prawn dishes when we heard the waitress at the next table say "we dont have prawns tonight" did we hear wrong? We called her over and she said they wouldnt have prawns for at least 6 mths due to govt ban from Thailand. What is wrong with Aust prawns...oh too expensive! We then ordered chicken satay with a tasteless satay sauce, pork belly cashew which was so sweet and fish which was tough and super sweet. We felt like we had 6 cans of coke and the worst thai ever! Never to return.
Easily the worst meal out I've had in years. Waited more than an hour to be served any food, staff showed no remorse or apology for this awful service. When our main meal finally came, it was small portions and overly sugary. Sadly they ruined...More
Came to this restaurant on the recommendation of our hotel's front desk. What the restaurant lacks in ambience it makes up in delicious food and great, attentive service. The satay chicken was probably the best I've ever tasted. A real gem.

Great restaurant for the family, the food was delicious, the waiter was very helpful, great views of corrigans beach. A must for all the family to go and enjoy this Traditional Thai Restaurant.
Went with my girlfriend for lunch paid a good price and got a lovely view as you come into bate haven the entrance is around the back food came in less than 15 minutes
Not the first time here with friends who live locally. Food as usual is excellent but the service requires patience. BYO wine so be prepared to sit back and relax
Ordered chicken laksa and chicken pad Thai. Laksa was quite thick, tasted more like a curry. Pad Thai was sweet, tasted more like pad sea ew.

We frequent Maos and always have excellent food. Consistently of a high standard. The fish Choo Chee is delicious.
Good food, good price, good service very nice environment in which to enjoy a meal.
