Matko is a fantastic family-owned Korean restaurant. If you're craving Korean food, this is the place to go. You can build your own bowl, Chipotle-style, or choose their family-style meal, which is perfect for 2-3 people. All of their banchan (side dishes) are homemade, including the teriyaki sauce. As someone born and raised in Korea, I have high expectations for Korean cuisine, and Matko truly hits the mark for authentic, comforting homemade flavors here in San Francisco.
Each bowl at Matko is flavorful and has a good serving of meat that suits the $16 price tag. Unfortunately, the add-ons feel like I'm getting nickled and dimed. $1 for sauce? $1.50 for two sets of utensils with two napkins? $0.50 for a bag? It makes every order an exercise in frugality. The food isn't bad but the service was extremely rude. I should have walked away and regret giving them my business. I live in the hood and really wanted to support this place but I don't deal with rudeness. Being an artist that struggles sometimes tomake ends meet, I'll spend $20 elsewhere. I won't be back. Matko is one of my top choices for a quick dinner. When I worked nearby, I often visited the One Market location for lunch. The food is consistently tasty, the servings are ample, and the menu offers a wide variety of options.

The staff is consistently friendly, the portions are large (one bowl typically lasts me for 1.5 to 2 meals), and the prices are fair.
