Absolutely fantastic experience. The food was exceptional with utmost attention to details, elegantly presented and satisfying all your senses .To start with the tempura Zucchini flower Teleggio, heirloom tomatoes, dried black olives basil oil and Duck confit mushroom pithivier, stinging nettle puree, creamed spinach, porcini sauce ...They were all just exquisite. The main courses we chose were utterly scrumptious. We had Pan-fried Humpty Doo barramundi, grilled bok choy, brandade fritters, sea lettuce sauce and Char grilled Victorian Black Angus beef surloin, smoked potato puree, sauteed kale, Bordelaise sauce..Wow..delicious or what. To finish our culinary sensory extravaganza the sublime...
We missed out on our workplace Christmas dinner last year due to covid restrictions so we had to make up for it. Matteo’s in Fitzroy is where we go every year and it was really nice to be able to visit again and pretend like it’s Christmas. The 3 course meal was deliciously delicate. I had the crab pasta for entree, the steak for main and a caramel tart for dessert. Everything was prepared with care and tasted great. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Christmas in July…it always sounded hokey to me but with the cold weather, it’s not such a bad concept.
We went on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy and noisy. The staff was very kind and moved us to a table in the corner, which was a lot better. First round of cocktails were delicious and so was the wine we had with the meals. Unfortunately I was quite underwhelmed with the taste of our food considering the price we paid. My partners meals were a bit more exciting and tastier than mine, overall it was a nice experience though.
Pretty good over all. The menu did some really lovely modern takes on Italian food. The entrees especially stood out. Best quail and zucchini flowers I have had for a long time. Service was good, really happy and friendly staff trying to keep it professional but up for a laugh. Also nice and calm ambience, It would be a really romantic date night. Reserva una mesa ahora
Thank you to the Matteo Team for being so understanding when I had to reschedule my booking three times. The service and food we ordered was outstanding. The patience of our waiter is commended. Glad we followed his recommendations. The wine complemented the food. The smoked hummus cigar was sensational to the taste buds. I shall certainly return.
We went for the 5 course tasting menu. Great location with ample parking around. Food is ok. Steak was nicely cooked to liking but mustard that was mixed with mash was overpowering and ended up with nothing but mustard flavor all over your pallet. Wish there was a pallet cleanser in between some courses included in the tasting menu.
Dined here for a work function. Service was excellent. Finger food was delicious, especially liked the arancini balls. Asked for medium rare for my Angus beef scotch fillet, but arrived too well done. Had the dessert plate of 3 enjoyed the jiggly panna cotta and passionfruit tart. Chocolate mousse was a bit too rich for my liking.
We had my parents 50th Birthday lunch here and Matteo's made it a memorable lunch for all the right reasons. Food was beautiful, service was great and the atmosphere was really nice as well.
