Upon entering, we grabbed a tray, napkins, and forks—but discovered that everything was sticky and not clean, which forced us to regroup and find some clean utensils. Afterward, we stood in line with a few customers ahead of us, and by the time we reached the front, there was one person behind us. We made our selections, paid, and found a table.

This place is the best if you grew up eating in old school cafeterias and loved them. The food is comforting and uncomplicated. When the weather is nice, we like sitting out on the patio with our two-year-old and saying hi to everyone on Main Street and waving at the train as it goes by. It 's a family favorite for sure.
Matthews Cafeteria is one of the best places around to get classic Southern food. Their food is excellent and the line moves quickly. I love the fired foods, casseroles, and sides. I basically always stop here for lunch if I'm in the Tucker area. It's one of the best places to eat around Atlanta, hands down.
The southern cuisine here is amazing, and they serve some of the best banana pudding I've ever tasted. The drive-thru was quite busy on a Sunday at 11:00 AM, but it was definitely worth the wait. Just be sure to allow some extra time to get through, consider visiting at a different time, or opt to walk in.

We drove 45 miles just for this experience. The food was decent but not any better than what you'd find at similar home-style cooking restaurants. When we went through the line, they only had small drink glasses available and no way to refill them. I was quite disappointed and very thirsty.
This restaurant opened in 1955, 2 years after I was born. After 68 years, It's still my all-time favorite restaurant. I live far away, but when I'm in the Atlanta area, you will see me eating here and getting takeout for later!
My dad and I love this place. I remember being a child and He would always let me eat his leftovers from yesterdays lunch. Still good after a day. Very friendly staff and very friendly owners. Great southern food. 10/10
Good food with fast service. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large enough for at least one left over meal. I must come back to try the desserts. I highly recommend this place for good down home cooking.

love this place. it 's one of THE top meat 'n two places in metro area. awesome fried chicken and like any good restaurant... you can pick dessert first!!
