My partner and I recently moved to Gardena and were in search of a really good, tasty and flavorful soul food restaurant. We tried a few spots but they didn’t satisfy the taste We’d been looking for. We drove passed Matthews restaurant everyday foran entire year and finally decided to give them a try and man oh man!! I’m glad we did, because it did not disappoint. Thefood is tasty, the flavor and seasonings are on point and Michelle the host/Owner is a precious gem. Such a kind woman and hasgreat southern hospitality. What a great way to kick off the new year by dining here at this awesome restaurant. The vibe is very much, we serve home-made dishes, have a nice attitude, decent appetite, and be relaxed as you dine because you'll feel at home; dining with family and friends. The service was splendid. They were prompt, friendly and consistent from begining to end. The food was delicious and it was even more special to hear about some bits of the recipes behind the amazing dishes served there. Will def go back again to try their breakfast and dinner. Compliments to the chef, owner and rest of the Matthew's Home staff/family.
Soul food heaven!!! I was next door looking for a suit for my grandson. I saw the home style cooking sign could smell the food cooking from outside. I was pleasantly surprised. They really make home style meals. They don’t skimp on the seasonings portions. I ordered oxtails, greens Mac. Brought it home everyone was in my plate. Ended up going back to order shrimp grits, fish and grits, fried chicken a bunch of sides. Greens, cabbage, macaroni and cheese, yams, black eye peas rice and gravy. My family loved every bit.
I visited this restaurant on New Year's Eve for the first time to have my black eyed peas and greens. The owner was very friendly when I made a reservation. I mentioned that I was the big guy with the red beard, and she remembered 2 hours later and came to give me a hug, which was a nice touch. Most importantly, the food was delicious and did not disappoint. I ordered the oxtails which were soft, tender, and practically fell off the bone.

O my goodness you talking about some good stuff. Everything I ate SMOTHERED CHICKEN, FRIED PORK CHOPS , MAC AND CHEESE, GREENS, CABBAGE, RICE AND GRAVY , FRIED OKRA AND HOT BUTTERY CORNBREAD MUFFINS OH AND THAT TAYTA SALAD BAYBEE HAD ME LICKING THE PLATE. BOMB. COM. REAL HOME STYLE FOOD FOR THE SOUL ITS FIRE. I DOUBLE RECOMMEND ITFood: 5/5
It is definitely a hidden gem. Don't let the outside fool you. Take a chance and get and get delighted with this delicious soul food. The seafood platter was enough for 2, the Krave mix(collard greens and cabbage) leave you craving more, and the Mac andcheese didn't fall short in anyway. Something to remember.
Sunday 4/9/2023 I ordered smothered pork chops dinner, my only complaint is the chop was tough and dry, gravy season will, side was good just not happy with the pork chops, could not eat. Wish I could exchange for something else. Second dinner ordered no complaints. Spent $54.39.
The food was excellent. The customer service was outstanding. I loved the collard greens. The young lady even up the football game on for my husband. It was our first time there. She made us fell very special. We will be going back.
