THIS MEAL CHANGED MY LIFE! I walk through Beverly Hills often, never stopping to shop or dine, but after months of just looking I wanted to know how good things could be, so I did some research, chose Maude and started saving. I 'm not wealthy, and the $175 charge when making a reservation at Maude made me sweat more than I 'd like to admit. Spreading the $215 tasting menu cost out between the reservation and day-of made things more digestible, but as I approached Maude (I passed by several times not noticing the subtle sign out front) I was nervous. what if they throw in crazy service fees, or worse, what if I leave hungry after all that money I had saved up an extra $200 just in case, but upon entry nearly every concern was washed away. The staff was extremely friendly and polite, helping me hang my cheap PBR jacket, and told me about the wine pairings. I had no interest in drinking, but the staff sold me by explaining the variety they offered. I had saved the extra couple hundred, why not. Each glass arrived at the table shortly before it 's accompanied dish, every drink and bite being distinctly unique while also a part of a larger cohesive whole. I hate saying dumb pretentious stuff like that, but after a few bites I wasn 't myself. I was finishing wine before the pairings arrived, I couldn 't be restrained, yet the sommelier would quickly refill my glass and remind me to be patient. I felt the need to stick my nose in everything sat in front of me, the aromas somehow familiar yet so new. I had never understood what a world class restaurant was, but I know now. As I sat by myself, maybe 4 other customers around me, enjoying the fun classic rock tunes that played, I realized that greatness is not something that just happens, it 's the combined preparation and effort every day that have a lasting effect. This meal was not only a lesson in fine dining, but taught me how to be better at my own job and in my relationships. It has also made me more financially responsible, as I eagerly save up for another trip. Maude is truly an inspiration (I apologize for not taking more pictures but I was simply too busy enjoying myself)
