We 'd been wanting to get in to Maxie 's, so in order to get a reservation with only a day 's notice, we decided to take an early dinner (4:15pm). Upon arriving we were seated immediately. The restaurant had just opened, but the dinner traffic had alreadystarted, and by the time we left shortly after 5 the joint was already packed. We ordered two drinks, a Hurricane and a Maxie 'sFrench Kiss. Both were perfect. Quickly following the drinks was some complimentary cornbread for the table. Sweeter than mostcornbread I 've had, and very crumbly, but delicious. Next up were the entrees (we skipped appetizers KNOWING we were havingdessert (s). Andrea Dexter ordered the 4 piece fried chicken dinner...
If you're a southern transplant hoping to find good southern or creole food in the north, you're in the wrong place. If you're a Wisconsinite, you can lie to yourself and pretend it's authentic while spending 30 bucks per plate. For the positives, the service was absolutely excellent. The pimento cheese board we got was pretty good, the drinks were quite good, the gumbo is good (but needs a little more seasoning) and the grits under my shrimp and grits were fantastic. On the disappointing end, the jambalaya was mostly unseasoned crushed canned tomatoes and basically inedible, the sauce on top of the shrimp and grits was fairly bland, and the brisket was slow cooker fare with some liquid smok...
I was seriously impressed. Went for an early dinner on Saturday with my family. Our waiter was awesome and seemed to really enjoy his job which set us up for a fantastic meal. I had the fried chicken. The breading was phenomenal. It had a touch ofhoney and was really sweet. As good as it was, after talking to our waiter I’m honestly excited to back and try theirNashville hot chicken next time. My wife had the BBQ shrimp with mac n cheese side. She really enjoyed both of them, havingspent time in New Orleans she had been looking for good seafood and said she finally found. My son got a burger and actuallyate most of it, so it must have been good. We absolutely will be back and will recommend.
Just wanted to let you know what a great experience we has tonight! I had reservations and was seated immediately. Server was knowledgeable ,prompt and friendly. Started the meal off with oysters that were so delicious. My dinner companion had brisketand I had the pecan crusted trout and a side of grits. The fish was done perfectly and the portions were more than ample! Icouldn't even finish and had to get a take away container. A fast favorite of mine. The food is rich and savory and there isn 't another local establishment offering the similar cuisine that can compare. Also, tell me where you can find a better bread pudding than what Maxie 's delivers. It 's so so sinful. You know it 's good when you ask yourself, this is bread, right? We had a carryout order today, though we do appreciate their outside seating space.
