Where to start….I always believe in starting with the good. Which was the wine and the kids meals, unfortunately it was all downhill from there. I would like to say that this is the first review that I have written on anything….ever. I have visited Maximilians/Sidewood quite a few times and it is consistently fantastic. It caters for a wide range of people and situations and you often see everything from families to footy teams. It is a fun venue, lots of seating options, DJ's on the weekend, an awesome golf driving setup (for wine or vouchers!) and the food is as good as you'll find anywhere. The 'house' wine, Sidewood, is brilliant but there is plenty to choose from if you are after something different. Maximillian’s has been a long-time favourite in the Adelaide Hills. I had been many years previous and was excited to be going back. Definitely did not disappoint – we were there on a Wednesday, it was a bit quierter than normal but excellent way to enjoy the degustation menu washed down with Sidewood sparkling. The food was exceptional, each course was a surprise and delectable and would definitely return for another foodie experience. So many different tastebud explosions going on. So rocked up for our 1230 booking for our pre booked tasting. Was rudely told that we were due at 12 noon and that there was another 1230. No apology, no consideration just can't do it. We even had an email confirmation but we're kicked out. Clearly they double booked. Disappointing attitude and service - such a let down. For a 5* venue this is unacceptable from the staff. Nice grounds and the golf is fun but overall a let down, over priced and a bit tacky overall. To be honest the wines are so much better at Nepenthe and Shaw and Smith, so give it a miss and venture further.
Arrived for our booking for Saturday lunch on time. We were greeted warmly and shown to our table. Our table had a great view of the surrounding landscape. It was raining and foggy. Lent itself to a very cosy and relaxing experience. We had a very engaging waitress who knew her wines and food. She was very attentive without hovering. Our food was delicious and substantial serves. We drank their wine - Sidewood. Well matched to our food. Could not fault the experience at all. Only problem was, I didn't have space to indulge in their delicious desserts.Good reason to go back.
Been to maximaiians before great place to drink wine and have a hit of golf Was very disappointed today was here with my partner drinking wine 1 hour before to be told there was a wedding and every one in the garden had to leave with in 15 minutes They advertise they are open but don't let the public know they are doing weddings or put signs on tables and the staff don't let any one know until 15 minutes before they have a wedding if that the case we would of chose a better place that was open very disappointed
