"Having lived in the area for 12 years, I have eaten at most of the local cafés and restaurants. However, I always return to El Bierzo for the finest ingredients, professionally cooked and with friendly efficient service. The restaurant is not widely advertised, and being part of the BP petrol station, is easily overlooked. Yes, there is a visible cafeteria serving excellent food, freshly baked bread and pizzas amongst other international dishes, but the restaurant is possibly the best in the area. I have never had a bad meal or experience here, and if chooing one of the beef courses, order the Valdeón Sauce to accompany. For dessert, if in season, try the Flambéed mangoes. The wine list reflects the owner's love of wine and includes wines from regions of Spain not normally included on local wine lists and offer an alternative to rioja. I would highly recommend this restaurant."
