Yesterday was visit 11 for me since Labor Day weekend. I 've tried to like this place but just cant get on board. Coffee has always been okay but just okay. To be honest the coffee offered on filter is okay. Not much to mess up there but for flavored drip coffee its always been decent. Espresso is a much different experience. Espresso here has no texture, and just tastes like strong filter coffee. The roast is off, it 's usually been a bit burnt and other times just fell short with no body. It appears they make cakes in house that are either sold by the slice or served whole but most of their pastries and food items appear to be bought in. The spinach danish is a spinach filled puff pastry and though a highlight of what 's on offer, it 's bought in like most everything else. Pricing is inconsistent. They offer special flavors which are combinations of several different flavorings but they don 't tell you they charge additionally for each flavor. Example, order the 'Marilyn Monroe ' and you get charged extra for each flavor in the combination. Same amount of syrup in the cup but you 're charged an extra 50 cents for each different flavor. Also, the point of sale system requires you to decline adding a tip to complete your transaction. Usually there is a small box on the screen you can tap to add a tip but at this store you have to actually add an amount or decline to tip to complete your purchase with a credit card. Cash customers aren 't forced to decline to tip in order to make their purchases, why set up your point of sale system this way? Lastly, and I know this is getting long for a coffee shop review, service just doesn 't exist. It 's always been varied and the only good service has been very early mornings just after opening when the owner herself was filling orders. Yesterday (Saturday) morning I walked in at 10 am, there were several customers seated, and two customers waiting on orders to be filled. I stood at the counter by the register for what felt like ages while four employees worked behind the counter, at one point the owner stepping out to make 5 persons behind the counter and not a single person spoke to me. No hello, welcome to the Hard Bean ... Not a single How may I help you? or I 'll be right with you. Nothing. In this shop I 've been told by the staff that I didn 't want a particular drink, that I couldn 't have plain coffee on ice because it would water it down and now I 've stood in front of 5 people who worked there and been ignored. I really hate to turn by back on a local business this one is just a lost cause. The sad part is with just a little investment in the product being offered and training employees on good service this could be a great local jewel. As it is, a Starbucks kiosk anywhere in town would put this place right out of business in a heartbeat. That 's sad.

I won 't be back. This place nickel and dimes you for everything. They actually charged me for putting cream in my coffee! I bought a medium coffee and a scone, which cost $8.31! When I asked for some tap water, they wanted to charge me 50 cents! I asked for them to heat my scone. They didn 't. It wasn 't good and was WAY overpriced. When I questioned why they charged for cream in the coffee, I was told they always did that. No thanks.

Ordered an iced mocha through the drive thru. It was a pleasant first-time experience here. The coffee was delicious!
