Despite the varied menu options, we all chose the set menu, which seemed like a good deal at £15.95 for two courses. Unfortunately, there was a wait for our food, and when it arrived, it was lukewarm at best. The steaks, which are supposed to be their specialty, were not cooked to our preferences and had gristle running through them. The chips were overly greasy, and the ‘onion loaf’ was disappointing. Extremely disappointed with the food, especially the sirloin steaks: hard and grisly. When the staff cleared a nearby table the crumbs and debris left there were just wiped off on to the floor close to where we were sitting. The table was relaid without being cleaned properly. We were close to the kitchen door which squeaked noisily, and we had to ask a staff member to remedy it, which, to be fair, she did. The bill somehow came to £92.00 (only one starter and no desserts, two medium glasses of wine and one 0% beer). On the bill was a charge for “Wet” £4.00 which no member of staff could explain to me. We used to come here regularly, havent been for a while but used to love the nachos so ordered them to start with the pulled beef…. It came out with only a teaspoon worth of meat, never used to be that small of a portion, and the purple tortilla chips were stale and chewy! Then when our steaks came my pot of steak sauce had nearly nothing in, I could see the bottom of the dish and it was cold and lumpy! My sister had the same sauce but it was hot and full. Mine however looked like it was left from a previous plate! Long waits between courses, it’s definitely gone down hill! Won’t be going back there for a long time!
Not sure who this restaurant thinks they are? Turned up today only for my partner to be looked up and down and asked if he has any other trousers because he had grey tracksuit bottoms on with a smart jumper. (I would understand no sportswear had he looked like he just stepped out of the gym but his outfit was quite smart as tracksuit bottoms go) Baring in mind this was also at 12pm on a Monday afternoon. Was asked to leave, no wonder the restaurant was empty just turning away genuine customers making people feel discriminated against. This is not the ritz, its miller and carter. I came down from Reading to collect my daughter from Uni for Christmas. It’s been a while since we’ve been to this M&C and we both hoped we’d see Kim again. We remembered how lovely she was at our last visit and true to from she was a diamond this evening. I’d accidentally booked the wrong date but there was no fuss, seated straight away and served promptly before our drive home. The food was superb and it was made all the more better for seeing Kim again. We’ll be sad when my daughter graduates and leaves Brighton as a visit to M&C is a highlight!
Not bad, food was good, staff were friendly, drinks were good but the place didn't have the wow factor, don't know?? The place still reminded me of the harvester?? A few things I did notice it wasn't very clean, finger prints on the glass doors as you entered, food on the floor, bits of food on our chairs, the decor needs a lick of paint, just needs a bit of a reboot, would I come back? Yes, I probably would, but in the future. Would I recommend it to friends and family? Again, yes, I probably would.
My wife and I went here for dinner as she really wanted a steak… We were greeted and shown to our table,it was quite cold where we were sitting. So the waitress put the heating on and adjusted the setting on the radiator,a nice touch… We ordered our drinks,starters and mains… The service was amazing and the staff are always friendly and attentive. The food definitely hit the spot,we were full and content when we left. We will definitely return.
