Under staffed? This was my first experience ever here, and it seems the front of house staff this morning was under or untrained. Myself and a table of two were only people in. Didn't ask if customers needed anything after bringing out food, which came out fast and was excellent (amazing white cheddar grits). The other table went to the pickup area to look for pepper and salt and was kind enough to bring me some as well. Flagged the staff to ask for my tab which prompted staff to ask if I wanted my empty coffee filled, it took 20 minutes to pick up my cash and ask about my water, because after the other table left TWO people came in right after and sat at the bar. Stopped in for lunch on a Thursday afternoon with a group of 6. Dining room was pretty busy and we had a short wait for a table. I understand the difficulty with hiring and keeping reliable staff, so we were patient. The server took our order for drinks and then came back for our food order. The food almost beat our drink order to the table. Based on the quality and quantity of food, it more than made up for the slower drink orders. 2 people ordered grits and said they were the best they have ever had. Wow, horrible service (or lack of). We saw the sign at the register saying they are short staffed, which we always completely understand (I used to work in a restaurant). We were sat on the patio and watched a table (who arrived after us) get drinks, order food, AND have their food delivered while their waitress completely ignored us the entire time. I politely asked another server walking by if we had a server for our table and he said “yeah I’ll get someone” and the proceeded to give me a dirty look as he walked inside. Waited at the table for an hour to be served, even to be asked about drinks. The waitresses passed us many times but spent most of the time sitting at the bar. We only waited that long because there was a sign up front that said be patient because everything is cooked to order. When they finally realized there were obviously customers there with menus that haven 't been helped, they did not apologize but said no one told me you were here. Best restaurant in the new area that we moved to. The photo does not do this fiod justice. Possibly the best jerk chicken and grits that i have ever had! My gf always goes for the ribs and cried when she dropped her leftovers on the floor. It is that good. The only thing missing is a broader selection of soft drinks. They need to get Dr. Pepper/Mr. Pib and some fruit flavored soda like orange or grape or even strawberry. Good soul food requires a soda selection like this.
This is a far step up from typical bar food. I tried their famous wings for the first time and they use unique breading that has a texture to it, holding in flavor. Except. But you need to go into Mil5ons with some grace...the service is slow and tables are too close together. For a fantastic restaurant, they seems to still be having trouble staffing. But please go anyway.
It would be so easy to drive past this gem, but don't! Their classic BBQ fare is amazing, and the rest of the menu is full of classics and many imaginative options. Wait staff was great even when short staffed. Truly a must go to place that isn't and not a big chain restaurant.
