We have been coming to Mondo's each week for around 10 years. It is with some reluctance that I now write this unfavourable review. We live nearby and have been coming here mainly for it's superb location. The food has mostly been of a reasonable standard and at a reasonable price. Mostly the service has been very good with just the occasional hiccup.We have put up with the at times high staff turnover and at times less than a high standard of food. Has been a few years since we have been here since living down south. We decided to take our families out to lunch while we were up on holidays and to say we were dissapointed is an understatement. The food was way below average, 'hot' calamari had near no flavour and was served with a pile of flat bread, combo fajitas were sent back as there was nearly no chicken on the plate, chicken sate sticks were so dry. The staff had no idea where the table numbers were and walked around with our food until aventually finding us waving at them asking if they were carrying around our now cold meals. We choose mondo's for there Oyster Deal on the Sunday 3-5pm. I arrived at 2.30pm and a group of us were meeting up. It wasn't that busy and we decided to go up and order the oysters, to be told that they had sold out. YOU can't sent out of a special that quickly when it's not that busy. This is false advertising, especially when this has happened on other occasions to other people on the table, which by getting there early they thought this would not happen this time round. As we all work in hospitality and tourism, this is not a good look. Either STOP the special or service it and don't falsely advertise it.
We had lunch and there were enough free seats in the shade. You choose your table yourself, order at the bar and then get the food brought. We had the Caeser Salad with Chicken and the Mexican Fajita. Both were delicious and the portions were also very good! The Mexican Fajita was served in a hot pan, which is of course another plus point visually. The restaurant is a bit behind the others, but the price is absolutely fair and you can enjoy the beautiful view of the harbor while you eat! Definitely to be recommended!

So ok. That was down there. Can't say we've had a really good meal in cairns, so thought we might try out side the box and eat at Mondos. Was optimistic going in... not so leaving, with most of our meals still on the plates.It was pretty ordinary and thats being really generous. Its really not even worth trying to explain why so bad. Maybe lose the freezer for starts.Come on guys, your obviously paying heaps on rent. Learn to cook. You dont have heaps of competition.
We usually do three strikes your out, but I think we will leave this one at two.Food very average bland burger, chips over cooked, way over priced. I think this is by far the most pricey fish and chip in cairns. Drinks over priced very disappointed.
Mondo is run by the Hilton. It's a pity the wait staff don't meet up to the standard set by the hotel. Staff seemed confused and spend too much time chatting amongst themselves. Food only average but views great.
The Norseman at L'Anse Aux Meadows restaurant will always be one of the highlights of our seven week excursion all over Newfoundland.

This is a great spot in Cairns to sit by the water and enjoy a good meal and a chat. Good food and friendly service.
Excellent food, uber attentive service, and awe-inspiring views.
