We have been to the Wortley Arms for a lunchtime pub meal a number of times and always said we ought to try the restaurant which we thought was upstairs and fine dining. Finally got round to booking a table for our Wedding Anniversary. Arrived early so went to the bar for a drink before our meal and was told our table was ready, it was just one of the tables in the lounge with a reserved sign on it. We said sorry we had booked the restaurant but were told that this was it. We were a little disappointed not to have a proper table with linen etc but still, never mind, our mistake and the menu looked good. We both enjoyed our starters, I had a tomato and basil terrine and my husband had the soup. My husband then had hake which he was happy with but my duck was not so good. There were only two slices of meat on the plate which, although it was thickly cut, was really a bit miserly. This was accompanied by some duck meat and potato croquettes which were not really to my taste and a few stems of sprouting brocc again, not enough for me. I also found the dish a little too salty. I don't usually have a dessert but having starved myself all day in anticipation of our special meal I was still hungry. I opted for the pear and almond tart and it was delicious. Overall, it was not what we expected and I did feel overdressed for what was essentially no different from the pub meals we have had there in the past. A nice enough meal out but I wouldn't go again for a special occasion.
