Bartender and hostess were nasty. I walked in at 5:25 and asked if I had a drink at the bar, could I get a dinner table for 1 at around 5:45? Hostess said no problem. We can fault nothing about our experience at Monteiths. The staff were so friendly and welcoming. The ambiance was really pleasant. But the stars of the show was the food...where do we start?! Starters: they were generous, incredibly flavoursome and really beautifully presented. This was the best smoked haddock I've ever eaten. And the haggis starter was wonderful. See photos Main courses: the pork belly was sublime and looked stunning. The sauce/jus that came with it had a depth of flavour that was outstanding. 0 Please avoid this place we had a voucher to use and the girl could not find voucher reference. She left my sister waiting for ages until we had to phone my nephew who had gifted us for Xmas treat. We were made feel as if we had free meal and people were looking at us. Humiliating . Terrible service and meal mediocre not worth the money . Prices expensive for what you get please don’t go here . It will only waste your day !
Absolutely outstanding. Don’t normally have fish dishes but the smoked haddock starter was outstanding. Brie custard candied walnuts was different, albeit quite rich with so much Brie. Pork belly was excellent but the star of the show was the venison loin. Absolutely incredible. Got a side of mashed potato and greens and didn’t even have any room for dessert.

Amazing food. A little over our budget as we had to get side dishes to bump up the size of the meal. We went here as a treat as we were completely over all the other restaurants with their reheated food and mush. Completely blew us away! Such a cool little restaurant/bar. Staff were really accommodating and we loved it!
We had scottish rarebit to start (not on the menu but we asked as had seen it on the bar menu) which was delish, followed by the Venison which was fantastic ! The restaurant area had a great cosy, intimate ambience
The haggis starter was superb and my venison was so tender. My partner’s salted cod was excellent. Next time the cauliflower though. Beware of a crazy lady setting fire to drinks menus! Sorry!
Amazing place. Great service from Monica .I will be back. The venison was the best I’ve ever had. The bartender Rae was great. Well done! Don’t waste your time looking for a place. Come here.

Great food in a cosy place. Main dishes are on the small sides for the price, so you will need either starters or side dish, to feel full. Service is ok but somewhat non-caring.
Nice and cozy place. Great food, with a creative kitchen at a high level of quality and taste Very small portions of food. Very expensive.
