This restaurant has been here for a long time, which says a great deal. Restaurants - especially high end eateries - come and go in Canberra, a town not unfamiliar with expenses cards but places like Ethiopia Down Under keep on keeping on. The food here is delicious, home style Ethiopian, the service is as friendly as if you were dining in someone's home, the decor simple and unfussy, all at the kind of price that has made this a local favourite for many a Canberran for many years.It's a long way from the parliamentary triangle/tourist route - which makes it even more attractive . Carnivores and vegetarians well catered for, kids no problem.
We had a tasting menu that had a range of entrees and a variety of main dishes to share, as well as some of their special (injeera I think it's called) bread that went perfectly with the meal. There was also special icecream and Ethiopian coffee to finish the meal with. I highly recommend this way of tasting such a great range of dishes. The food was flavoursome & plentiful and the owners came and checked that we were enjoying ourselves. The young man who poured our coffee explained the Ethiopian coffee tradition and his role in pouring coffee at home. All staff served with beautiful smiles. It was a lovely night out.
We were introduced to Ethiopian food in Germany - thanks Hiwot. It is still something I look for when travelling as the food is never bland and always tasty. We had a tasting plate - after being told the banquet was for a foursome - which we really enjoyed. I can't tell you the names but it was a lovely mix. Finished with a traditional Ethiopian coffee gelato and a mango gelato. Followed by real coffee. No point reading this rubbish. Just turn up and enjoy the place for yourself. No frills and simple straightforward service. Well worth the effort. BYO. But a local liquor shop across the courtyard.
We hadnt been there before and tried it on spec. We had the 6 entrée package and it was delightful. Restaurant is in the middle of nowhere but was booked out on Saturday night so the reputation must be good.But it took a full hour for our mains to arrive, and another 25 minutes for tea and coffee. Is that reasonable or are we just impatient TYPE A s..?

The staff were very friendly and happily accommodated dietary requirements. The food was absolutely delicious and there was nothing left on the plate.We had the giant share plate with a variety of curries. We chose to eat in the traditional way straight from the platter with our hands but they also provided plates and cutlery if we preferred.
In netter Atmosphäre kann man sehr leckere äthiopische Spezialitäten probieren. Das Personal ist ausgesprochen freundlich und berät gerne und gut, welche Speisen zu empfehlen sind. Insgesamt haben wir uns rundherum wohl gefühlt. Das war nicht mein letzter Besuch dort.
Hadnt experienced Ethiopian food before apart from the odd dish at the multicultural festival. Was very pleasantly surprised with this place. Food was delicious, very affordable and the staff were more than attentive. Was worth the drive.
My wife have dined here on several occasions and enjoy the good very much. The environment is reasonably basic with plastic table clothes. The people who work here are helpful with menu recommendations. Will certainly fine here again.
