Swung by this place to get some treats for Lunar New Year for some coworkers, and I had to come back 3 times to get what I wanted, which was understandable given the holiday. First day I called, they were closed to celebrate the New Year. Understandable. I went by the next day and they didn't have much of anything, and they said it was because they were closed. Still found that odd, that even though they'd been open all day, they hadn't made much, but shrug. Went back a third time with a friend who is a native speaker and was able to get everything I wanted. In Queens, so language barriers are to be expected, but it is something to be aware of if you don't speak Mandarin when you visit. The...

So far I've been to this place twice. Every time I was there I was served by the older lady and then her husband Uncle Wing who is more like Grand Pa Wing. My experience has been positive not just the quality of the pastry but how I was treated as a fellow man. I don't live nearby and I don't go there every day. The couple of times I went it was later in the morning and most of its pastries were sold out. I bought what's left. Both times Uncle Wing came out from the back and treated me with some of the walnut pastry for free. They kind of felt bad that all the buns were sold out and urged me to come early. The couple seems genuine and I have nothing bad to say about them. Your experience may...

This place was OK. A little pricey for certain things such as plain sponge cake was $2.25. I picked up two of them, a custard cream, a roast pork bun, and a black sesame egg white pudding. I also ordered a iced tea with milk. The custard bun was delicious. Not too sweet and the bun was nice and moist. The roast pork bun wasn't typical. It didn't have the color I expected (brown instead of red here) and it had a little too many onions for my taste. The bread was also a little dry. I haven't tried the black sesame pudding yet.... I was drinking the tea while driving and didn't notice until I got home that there was a fly in it . It was covered so it was in there already vs flying in after

After hearing that this place has the best HK-style egg tarts in Queens, I was eager to check it out. It's a bit out of the way from downtown Flushing, but we were fortunate to find a metered parking spot nearby. We managed to grab a few of the HK-style egg tarts; however, they had unfortunately run out of the black sesame flavored ones. The egg tarts featured a cookie crust and had a very eggy flavor. The filling was rich and buttery, while the cookie crust was pleasantly soft. I usually prefer flaky (酥皮) egg tarts, but I have to say this one was quite impressive.

This place is highly touted as the owner was the former pastry chef at Mandarin Oriental HK. It was an inconvenient drive from Flushings Chinatown, by the time we arrived most of the popular pastries were gone. Thankfully there were a few of the signature egg tarts remaing. It was as good as advertised: very rich buttery. It was not as airy or puffy compared to lets say Golden Gates at SF. Unfortunately the black sesame egg white tart was all sold out.

We visit this restaurant at least once a week in the morning. The fresh Hong Kong-style buns consistently brighten our day. Some of our favorites include the custard bun, sweet bun, and ham and cheese bun.
