Stopped here on the way back from Mount Washington based on great reviews from Yelp. It's a bit understaffed, as we had to wait more than 15 minutes to see a server, despite there being only one other party in the restaurant. It's a bright room with big picture windows, antiques, old pictures and a nice vibe inside. The big pizza oven glows in the corner and the smell of things cooking wafts to the tables nearby. We ordered the fried green beans and mozzarella bites for appetizers, a pepperoni pizza with a little extra sauce, a large hand cut fries and chicken fingers. The green beans crunchy on the outside and soft and juicy on the inside. Tasty. Mozzarella bites were crispy and melty inside. They were tasty with a side of fresh, chunky marinara. Chicken fingers were fresh, real chicken, fried perfectly and had a tasty sweet and sour sauce on the side. The hand cut fries were a bit limp and cold when they arrived. They would have been great if they got to the table hot/crispy. They were well seasoned and reasonably tasty otherwise. The pizza was the star of the show. A nice, large pie with a thin, tasty crust in the middle and chewy, medium thick outer ring. The Super fresh, bright, brassy sauce will wake you up with its sweet, tasty flavor. It's eye opening good. The cheese is good quality and well portioned and represented. The pepperoni was also tasty, but made the pizza a bit too oily. A really, really great pizza. And I eat a lot of them, so that's not said lightly. A brownie sundae for dessert was above average as well. A substantial and delicious chocolate brownie with Gifford's ice cream really hit the spot. Just enough fudge to be just right. It's a great place for lunch or dinner. Aside from the poor speed and lack of attentiveness of the service, this review would have been five stars all day long.
We have been here several times when visiting the area and this is our FAVORITE pizza! The crust is wonderful, sauce is delicious and it's perfectly cooked, every time. As others have stated, the maple bacon pizza is AMAZING! The reason for giving only a 4-star rating is the lousy atmosphere and sometimes service. They are often understaffed and the place is too brightly lit, echoes easily and desperately needs some soft music to minimize the loud noises often coming from the pizza oven area (is it necessary to slam the bins and serving trays? . Soften the lights, add some music and adequately staff the place and you'll have an even better pizza restaurant. But the pizza is still hands-down the best in the area!!
