Have I ever told you about my love affair with Mr. Dewie? We accidentally met one day when I was visiting the Emeryville Marketplace. I'd gone in for a bite and was later feeling a little frisky and daring. Then I noticed Mr. Dewie standing off in a corner. I'm not usually so forward but I thought what the heck, my husband doesn't have to know. I walked right over and introduced myself to the orange chocolate chip and I was forever changed. There was no turning back. I've hooked up with Mr. Dewie on Solano Ave in Albany and at Loards Ice Cream in Alameda. I even met up with him at the vegan fair yesterday. He's creamy and delicious, always tempting me to have more than I know is good for me....
Mr. Dewie's offers the best vegan ice cream I have ever tried. Despite some reviews mentioning a chalky texture, I find their flavors to be quite silky. While some flavors like matcha may not be as smooth, this is to be expected due to the ingredients. I appreciate that their ice cream is not made with cow's milk, so I don't expect it to have the exact same texture. The variety of flavors and specials offered are fantastic, with my favorites being turmeric spice, strawberry, and coffee. Every flavor I have tried has been delicious and not too sweet. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Thank you, Mr. Dewie's, for providing dairy-free individuals with such amazing cold treats!
It 's a small ice cream shop in an Emeryville Public Market. I like idea of dairy, gluten, and soy-free ice cream so people with dietary needs can enjoy ice cream. However, the texture of all the flavors i tried was a bit chalky. I usually prefer a smooth texture. I tried several flavors but all of them were just okay to me. I ended up going for coffee and chocolate. For some reason chocolate was a bit sour to me so I did not enjoy much. My husband did enjoy it though. Overall it 's an okay ice cream shop for me. It 's not the 'must try ' ice cream for me when I am in the area. I am still giving it 4 stars since it is personal preference and the staff was very nice and friendly.
This place is on the pricier side given the portion size, but there were some standout aspects. I particularly enjoyed the use of turmeric in the ice cream. However, it leans towards classic flavors and lacks the originality that non dairy users might seek. While I didn't find it very chalky, it didn't quite have the same silkiness as other spots, notably Frankie and Jo's in Larkspur. I may not need to rush back, but it's good to have this place in my back pocket for the occasional visit on the East Bay. There are multiple locations, but I liked the Emeryville spot for the ease of parking and the other options in the dining hall.

I'm a woman who enjoys a creamy treat. Dairy, custards, cashews whateva, as long as it's cold, creamy and delicious. Mr.Dewie's is a delicious creamy ice cream that tantalizes my palate that happens to be vegan. The flavors are balanced and not too sweet and have interesting flavors like their turmeric and chocolate orange. I also like deluding myself into thinking is healthy because it's nut-based (I mean it's gonna be better for you than ice cream right? To you, Mr.Dewie's, I say I DEW!
Many ice cream shops offer vegan options, but few go beyond sorbets and basic flavors. Mr. Dewey's, however, offers a wide range of unique and traditional flavors. They are known for mixing the exotic golden turmeric flavor with less exotic options like banana walnut, creating a delicious treat.
I only tried the chocolate flavor with big cookie chunks mixed in. It was fabulous. I love an ice cream that doesn't skimp out on the mix-ins. Although I am not vegan or even vegetarian, seeing an increase in plant-based options is awesome.
I loved it! It's fantastic to have a vegan ice cream place. The ice cream was delicious and I was thrilled to see they had gluten-free cone options. The staff member working there was really friendly.
