I've been to a lot of restaurants of this caliber all around the world and this has got to be one of the most disappointing ones that left me scratching my head. The food was okay. It was fine. Granted, I am someone who has had A LOT of authentic Asian food so I know what the gold standard is and this was... the most run of the middle mid range food. Make your booking as soon as you can. We tried and tried knowing that we were only in Sydney for a total of seven nights over a thirty day period. We wanted to dine with Mr. Wong in the early evening (6:30/7:00 timeframe) and had to take what we could. About six weeks in advance of our arrival we started looking. There was only one available at 6:00PM and we grabbed it and it was on our next to last night in Australia. Not very many people in this country use yelp which is great in this case so I can say: SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. if all you want is to be near people spending money and don't care about nuance or attention from the staff, this is the place for you. You can go to 10 better restaurants for the cost of one meal here. 10!! Every time we needed anything we had to flag down our waitstaff. The meal wasn't bad, but it wasn't new or different. You clearly come here for the vibe, which is split between restaurant-classic wine bar/massive old industrial basement, and is well worth a stop, at least if someone else is paying. They have an impressive rack of roast duck that is quickly emptied on the ground floor as dinner gets rolling, and they handled our large group well. Fried rice was more on the fusion side but still tasty, the har gow appetizer was clearly a fancy variety assortment, and the veggies we had (a mix of gai lan and snow peas) were all delicious. Mr Wong is a gem in the heart of Sydney CBD. As part of the renowned Marrivale restaurant group, it offers an unforgettable culinary experience.
