We tried numerous dishes and all were phenomenal. They served yummy local beer. The homemade croquetas de jamon had the best bechamel filling ever! The calamari was really fresh. The suggested day special was a baby artichoke dish which was so good, we ordered a second plate of it! The beef cheek was also tasty. And then, the finale.. the curdled sheep's milk with honey. Yummm. Most unique desert with a little tangy flavor which was a light and refreshing. This place should be your number one spot for pintxos in Hondarribia!
We had two very enjoyable meals here. Food is all cooked fresh to order and the wine is excellent value and excellent quality €2 for a really good dry white). It gets extremely busy at peak Spanish eating hours so either be prepared to wait or go a touch earlier. At 8pm we got the last table, from 9 you’d struggle, at 10 no chance. We ordered too much and it comes in stages so we were able to cancel one item which was appreciated. Great service too, English menu available.
We had nibbled a fed pinxtos during the day, and wanted to find a place for a light dinner. After checking out a dozen or so places, we happened on this place. They have a few tables in an air conditioned dining room, and many more on the sidewalk. Wife opted for the tomato Tina salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had grilled prawns and s little of wife’s salad. Also very good. Prices are reasonable, and wines are very inexpensive. Worth a return visit.
Bar Ondarribi is located in the lower town on a busy pedestrian street with lots of eating options, but we were glad we chose this one. We knew we were in for a good experience when we were welcomed just as warmly as the local regulars on a Wednesday night. We ordered a variety of raciones which looked great and tasted even better, We paired this with a recommended local craft beer and local cider and we had an extremely winning combination.
