When our hibachi chef arrived, he cooked the food in silence and didn’t offer any of the necessary sauces (which are a crucial part of the hibachi experience). Just as he was wrapping up, he finally attempted to engage with us by doing the sake bottle squirt, but by then, we were just sitting there confused about what had just happened. I used to live in the apartments upstairs from Osaka for a little over a year after graduating from nearby Hampshire College in Amherst. Throughout my college years at Hampshire I 'd eaten at Osaka a few times; NEVER envisioning I 'd actually live upstairs from it in the future when I graduated. I 'm from NYC originally, and Osaka holds it 's own with some of the best Sushi places I 've eaten at in Manhattan and Brooklyn. BEST Sushi imho in Noho (if NOT within the entire Pioneer Valley area); Arigato in Amherst was my other: Go-To Pioneer Valley Sushi spot; BUT, once I was living upstairs from Osaka though, I became a SOLID regular there. I hadn't visited this restaurant in over a year, and I regret to say that it seems to have declined somewhat. The experience we had wasn’t as good as it used to be. They appear to be cutting corners, as the quality of the food has dropped compared to a year ago. For instance, we only managed to eat about a third of the rice because it was overly greasy. That's just one example of the issues we encountered. The staff also seemed quite tense and treated us as if we were in the way. I understand these are challenging times, but a little kindness towards customers would go a long way. I hope things improve because we really loved this place until now.

Had an enjoyable dining experience at Osaka in Northampton, MA with a friend! The ambiance was inviting, and the service was prompt and friendly. We indulged in a variety of sushi rolls and were impressed by the freshness and presentation. The Loveboat for 2 was a standout, giving us an awesome experience of sampling and trying together. While the overall experience was delightful, I'm leaving it at 4 stars as there's always room for improvement. Nonetheless, Osaka is a solid choice for a sushi outing in Northampton. Stopped in for lunch and was seated right away. Ordered the Lychee Martini that was very good. For sushi rolls I had the Bad Boy and American Tango rolls and oh my..... what delicious and creative flavor combinations and amazing tasting sauces. Loved mylunch experience. Service was quick. There's metered on street parking, a parking garage or a ticketed parking lot, all acrossthe street. The option for dining outdoors is available. Really enjoyed this spot!

I went out for dinner with some friends, and we all ordered hibachi and sushi. The portions were generous, and the food was excellent. The staff was very friendly too. I was a bit surprised to find that they automatically added an 18% gratuity to all checks, and any additional tip needed to be given in cash. While this was convenient and ensured a decent tip, I wish I had known about it in advance, as I would have brought cash with me.

Food is amazing, service is subpar. I visited for dinner with my wife and the menu was changed since we were there last so I tried something new which was great! Regardless of what I order, I'm always happy. They could just use a more friendlyatmosphere. Prices are a bit expensive.
