Met up with a friend for lunch last Tuesday at The Palace Hotel in Camberwell Have been there previously and whilst the food was ok went back again fir convenience sake Well the Menu looked and sounded yummy believe me it wasn't !! I had the roast lamb which tasted like it was re heated .. except it wasn't and full of gristle and fat the vegetables were very average and the piece de resistance was the stone cold gravy poured all over it My son's meal was supposed to be a chicken risotto which truly looked like porridge mashed up and loaded with garlic ... but it was hot ! What initially caught my eye was the fact that this pub is basically across the road from the Camberwell Railway station, which immediately says to me - really convenient. Mind you, its convenience is probably all there is too this place, because as soon as I saw the blue 'pokies' sign about the entrance I knew exactly what this pub was - a typical suburban pub. The front bar isn't bad, and they do have live music, but that is basically about it. Out the back you have your gaming room and your sports bar, and you can probably guess the type of people that they attract. Still, it is convenient, and I'll probably be here again if I happen to be back in the Camberwell area.
Upon entering the hotel the ambience is a little depressing, Tables and chairs need updating. I suppose it is a typical old pub. However service is friendly and prompt. As they say "service with a smile". Fairly typical pub food, good size portions of an acceptable standard. For the quality of what you get it is a bit over priced. There is a lunch menu which is reasonable value. Average pub food.
Top pub. Nice small TAB few monitors and a few touch screen betting machines. Always have a $5 schooner special and have a daily meal special. $12ish for burgers and parma ect. Nice décor and nice new tables and seats. Staff fairly friendly Nice easy spot to get to directly across from Camberwell station Good for a quite beer and a few bets mid week.

This place was a very nice for a large group to party and dine they had a good band on they had a gaming room and the meals were great and good value other than closing early on a public holiday !!! ( understand penalty rates killed the party ) i found this a really good down to earth pub for all the family
I enjoyed a beer and a salad here.The hotel is a beautiful Grand Old Lady. I especially liked the main bar area.Staff were pleasant. The pokies do not interest me but quite a few were playing.It's across the road from Camberwell railway station and on the 72 tram so access is easy.
We have visited the Palace as a family for years but after the last visit most of us were disappointed with our meals. Steak tough, no chicken in the chicken risotto, no feta cheese in the feta cheese and pumpkin salad, no pumpkin as well. We wonder if the chef can read!
A quick meal with friends and I was underwhelmed by the cost compared to the quality of the food. Nothing to rave about. The food was not over the top tasty and the presentation was just very average.

friendly staff as soon as they are in the door to foot, enjoy a delicious chicken parma, very reasonable price, does not take long to arrive, great for a quick dinner.
Unfortunately this hotel needs a lift the food is ok but it has no atmosphere whatsoever ashame as it coud be a great venue if it was spruced up in a bright manner
