Palmers Fish And Chips

My wife and I dined at Palmers Fish Restaurant (the larger location) last night. The chips were the best we've ever had, perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The batter on the cod was just right, not too thick or too thin, nice and crispy. The portion of mushy peas was very generous. The service was quick and the staff were friendly and attentive. The restaurant was bright, airy, and spotlessly clean. We had such a pleasant evening that I felt compelled to leave a comment. Due to the pandemic, we haven't been out much in the last three years, so it was a delightful surprise. We have purchased takeout fish and chips from this restaurant twice recently. However, we had to wait a long time after placing our order and were disappointed by the small portion sizes both times. The fish batter was undercooked and the chips were small and overly crispy. We were unable to eat much of the meals and ended up throwing a lot of food away. Additionally, the meals were overpriced for what was received. Overall, it was a waste of both food and money. We do not plan on returning to this restaurant.

The moment we entered, the woman was impolite. After finishing our meal, we were billed £5 for an order of chips listed as £1.60 on the menu. When we raised the issue with the woman, she claimed that what we had ordered was not officially on the menu yet and that she had accidentally undercharged us. Even if that was the case, she should have inquired if we wanted the original item we requested or this new, significantly more expensive order of chips.

The restaurant served me deliciously crispy chips, which were the only thing I ordered, in a sturdy paper bag. The service was quick and self-serve. While not the most affordable option, the quality of the food was worth it.
