"Food is always wonderful and the atmosphere and service outstanding. Have visited several times when in town and have always been greeted warmly. The nachos chips on the table are light and crispy, the calamari appetizer is the best calamari ever and the main courses never fail."

Papagayo continues to be the best Mexican Restaurant in Hamilton, in all the times we have been here we have never been disappointed. So when it was my partner's actual birthday and we needed a place to celebrate with her family this was her Restaurant of Choice. We arrived on a Friday evening (St. Patrick's Day) around 5:45 pm, I had made reservations for 6 explaining the special occasion and they set us up in the back room which was great. Our waitress/bartender was Elaine who is a familiar face here and an absolutely fantastic waitress. I started out with the Tortilla Soup $(5.50) which was very good, but Papagayo always delivers with a great soup. I then went with the Combination Plate $...

We had a reservation and were seated right away. The atmosphere is fun and funky, decorated with charming Mexican tchotchkes and painted in typical Mexican colours. Service was timely and attentive - hot, homemade nachos were delivered to our table as we perused the menu. The nachos were light and crisp; however, the salsa was bland. When I asked if they had some hot sauce, we were brought a selection of 3, chef-made sauces: a smoky, spicy chipotle, a wonderful garlic, habenero, and a spicy jalapeno. I don't think one should have to ask for these sauces - so much better than the one initially delivered.Overall, the food was bland and I had difficulty differentiating among the chicken, beef a...

8 of us went to this Mexican restaurant on a weekend. You have to look for parking because it is right on busy King St but there are quite a few lots in the area. The atmosphere I would say was pleasant but a bit tired looking. The prices are mid range so okay for a casual night out. The food was good, but I have been to Mexico so comparing the food was tricky. I would say it falls short but is still good. Nothing stuck out as fantastic but I enjoyed my meal. I had the combo dish and found the chimichanga bland and dry but the rest of the meal was fine. There are a few other Mexican restaurants now open that do a more imaginative job. No tacos except I think on special nights and I think tha...

The restaurant we seem to return to again and again. We worried, since recent reviews showed some negative response. We went back anyway and found the same lovely room and quite enjoyable food. We started with delicious sangria, and the tortillas, crepes and calamari appies were fantastic (and on special that evening). Our assorted entrees were filling, but the accompanying beans were lacklustre (needing salt and flavouring -- they were cool as well). One server was being trained and was nervous, but the second server who assisted and then took over was exceptionally attentive and more than pleasant. Her smile actually warmed the whole event up for me. We are loyal and will continue to visit... Reserva una mesa ahora

We stopped by for a quick lunch, just two of us. Noticed Nachos for 2 on the menu. What a rip off. When they arrived there was hardly enough for one person, let alone two. My mistake was not sending them back immediately when they arrived at our table. They tasted pretty good and the sides of sour cream, guacamole, salsa etc. were all good. So the most bizarre thing is why would the chef or who ever is in control of portion sizes....why would you cheap out on the most inexpensive thing you could put on a table....the nacho chips themselves! Ridiculous. Needless to say we will never go back and will stick to a couple of other Mexican places that are much better. Don't waste your money on this...

I had purchased an awesome wagjag deal for this restaurant, which was a perfect way to try them. I had made reservations prior. When we walked in we were greeted right away and taken to our table. There were quite a few of us who had the deal and were all first timers. The service was awesome and the waitress very attentive. We started out with the chicken tortilla soup, then the combination plate then the tequila lime cheesecake. We weren't disappointed! It was all delicious and very plentiful portions. Nothing was overly spiced, just perfect! The atmosphere is very Mexican as well! Would highly recommend and will definitely return!

Explanations on the menu for those who aren't familiar with the options, and it is not extensive but a good selection. Service is very friendly and really good at keeping food at a very nice pace. I was happy with the food for the most part, but surprised at the relative lack of spice. I had the enchilada platter and with the exception of a chunk of chorizo at the end of one, it was difficult to tell the difference between the beef, chicken and chorizo enchilada as they all tasted much the same. Covered with a verde but could not find the mole. Entrees have changed slightly since the last time I was here, but they are still good.

There was a Wagjag for $29 for dinner for two. It included two appetizers, two entrees and one shared desert. Nice place. They provided homemade nacho's, and we had ordered the Cesar and a Quesadilla. Quesadilla was terrific! Caesar was good had a nice kick of spice to it. For mains we had a Combination Plate and Enchilada Platter, both were outstanding! We finished with a shared Tequila Lime cheese cake which was amazing and would have loved to scarf down a whole cake to myself.Server was very nice and attentive, atmosphere was nice, and food was very good. will be definitely going again! Service was lovely here. Went with a group of over 20 and they had everything prepared and the service was decent speed. Everyone seemed to get their food at about the same time. Really on top of things. I had the chimichanga which was alright. The portions aren't that big but everything was fresh. Everyone seemed happy with their food but nothing to rave about if you know what I mean. I would go for the experience again and try some new things. Not many places that serve Spanish food around here.
