After hearing positive reviews and having dined here last year, we had high expectations. The portions were extremely generous, so we decided to share a fish dish and a side of chips and mushy peas. Unfortunately, we found the food to be lukewarm and ended up leaving some behind. The restaurant was nearly empty with only two waitresses working. When a second couple arrived, they were asked to wait for service as the waitresses were preoccupied with tidying cups. The fish and chips were okay. There were 4 adults and 3 children in our party so we were asked to sit at the end near the bar area. There was no heating we were absolutely freezing...December and only half the building heated, the half we were told we couldn't sit. The place could do with a refurb as it is looking quite tired. The other gripe we had is it was cash only as we were told the card machine wasn't working. The cost was £62, 3 children under 5 so hard to say whether or not it was value for money. I hadn't been for ages so a bit of a disappointment..
Didn 't know that Papas did GF fish and chips until TA search showed it. Rang to confirm before visited and they serve every day. When I went to pick up, I was advised.... 'ring before and as they are cooked fresh, they will be ready when you get here and don 't have to wait as long.. fab service. Also do gf battered sausages, battered holloumi. GF Curry sauce was spicy and good. Really happy I found that this is local and so good. Fish was fresh, moist and batter crisp and 'large ' fish was large not just in price.
I always go for the large haddock, chips and mushy peas! Cooked to order and always fresh. Gorgeous crisp and dry batter on the fish. The waitress in the restaurant is always cheerful and always remembers my order although she does ask if I want to change anything. My only gripe is the rather loud radio station music being played over the speaker system. Must have a quiet word next time I visit!

Sadly dissapointed with my meal today . Having used this restaurant in Scarborough , was expecting the same high standard in Castleford . Had the fish cakes , which didn't taste of anything let alone fish .....they came half cold and served on a cold plate . Have I got the second one warmed up...it came back soggy as if it had been warmed in a microwave .
We called here one Thursday evening on our way back from rugby and we ordered to take out. The food was awful the batter was soggy and barely had any fish inside, the chips were what seemed to be left overs warmed up. The staff were rude and uninterested. Would not be returning or recommend going.
Called in for take away, two regular haddock, large chips and peas. Fantastic! Perfectly, freshly cooked haddock with light crispy batter that didn't even loose its crispiness during the 5 minute drive home. Tasty chips, and hot flavourful peas. Cannot reccomended enough.
Just wanted to say everything was delicious. Fresh fish, cooked very well, crispy but not greasy. Seafood platter was very good too, and the chips were like your mum's. Curry sauce very good too. Caring, personal service from Joe thank you.

Great fish chips. Freshly cooked, good quick service. Reasonably priced for a restaurant and there is a takeaway option too.
