Arriving just after 1300hrs on a Tuesday I found a table and waited for my order to be taken. After 10 minutes I went loking for staff; there was no-one at the bar or serving. Eventually a staf member came out, and I gave him my order at the table. The main course was good, hot and tasty. I went to look for someone to request that my dessert be served; I did so, but the dessert was not served. I found the staff member I had asked previously; she replied, annoyed, that this was 20 minutes ago and went into the kitchen. Popped in for breakfast and ordered no egg on my breakfast as it makes me sick the taste. Actually had a conversation about swapping egg with black pudding and I was happy to pay extra. Low and behold cane to me 5 mins later with egg on. Took it to the bar and said its got egg on and I'm bit allergic she said OK. Ten minutes later no new food, I asked girl at the bar where my food was (same girl). She said I didn't know what you wanted me to do? I was like wow ok she said speak to manager who just didn't want to know in end I asked for a refund he said you need to leave and don't come back. I go in once a week then that!!! This was our first visit to this Wetherspoons and we knew it was outside only. No queue to get in and not too difficult to find a table in the late afternoon sun.As only table or using app for service we tried ordering online as no waiter had appeared to take our order after 10 mins. Just as I was trying to make a payment via the app the waiter appeared and as I was having issues took our order. Drinks took another 10 mins to arrive so in general service was slow. I often pop in for lunch. However over the past few months I’ve noticed the food and cleanliness not up to usual standard. Food is usually always of good quality at great prices.Shame the place is often littered with dirty uncleared tables. The menus are often stained with food and sticky. There is a young female member of staff who works her socks off and is always helpful and pleasant. She’s a credit to the company! (I don’t know her name, she has a foreign accent) The cleanliness of the tables and pub in general could do with being prioritised more.

We discovered Wetherspoons after booking a stay in Chester for later this month. We thought we would try The Penny Black to see what Wetherspoons had to offer and were very pleasantly surprised. As pensioners we thought it was a place for the youngsters, however, how wrong we were. The atmosphere, menu, prices and especially the staff are perfect. We are not generally pub goers but the food and coffee refill deals have certainly changed our views-Wetherspoons is now becoming our local. I have read your magazine and would recommend it to people.
Have been venturing to the penny black for a couple of pints most days for a while,but of late I've found it's like your sat in a fridge wherever you sit. I've heard many individuals talking about how it's like being sat in a draft. Not a great experience if your planning on spending a couple of hours there. Please, please get your heating system sorted before the really cold weather set's in. Only gave two star's as staff are friendly otherwise it would have been one .
We went for breakfast and right from the off was told there was no cups available we would have to wait then we went to coffee machines and both machines did not work correctly as dispense hot chocolates and there was no tea bags or sugar available. We struggled to find a table as all tables were dirty and full of plates.... Toilet where leaking and pub is in a really bad state of repair..we will not be going here again
I spoke to a staff member on entering at 1515hrs, and was told to wait at a table, and I would be served. After 10 minutes I asked a waiter if he could take my order; he said someone would be there soon to take my order. Aftera further 15 minutes of no response, I left. On leaving I expressed my disappointment to the staff, who apologised, and said I hoped for a better response next Saturday afternoon.

Me and my friends were having a drink after spending lots of money they decide to tell us that they are not serving us anymore, because we were having fun.
The new manager is really rude She’s got an attitude problem and a terrible hair cut. Not recommended at all.
