found this restaurant in frommers book. smoked meat is a canadian equivalent of corned beef but more highly spiced like pastrami. this restaurant did one thing and did it well, which in my experience is a smart strategy. smoked meat in every dish, including a spaghetti sauce. large sandwiches w choice of sides: cole slaw, chips, greek salad. i got the greek salad which had a fantastic dressing and a large block of feta. the meat was offered lean, medium or fatty. sandwiches were huge, but we managed to clean the plate. also, frommers said they don't take credit card, but they do.
Great customer service and great food. What more can you ask for? This place is a little hidden in that it's not on a main food strip in St-Roch. This place is known for their smoked meat and with good reason. Their meat is super tender, melting in your mouth with each bit. Their Greek salad dressing is also delicious. You can tell everything was super fresh and made to order. If you love meat, you need to make sure you stop by this place.
Friends and I stopped in here for a late lunch (around 4:00 p.m) The place was pretty empty aside from a couple at the counter/bar and a lady getting take out. The food was delicious - I've never really tried smoked meat before, but it was great on my spaghetti! Salad was good too. Service was very nice and fast!
My son and I had the classique sandwich and they were phenomenal. Phil and his staff were more than welcoming and helpful, and made us feel more like guests in his home than customers. I will return any time I am in Quebec. I would recommend Phil's to everyone.

our stay in québec has made us discover this specialty. surprising, very tasty, it is made of sandwich, accompanied by pates. We were conquered by this new taste. the scenery is typical, and the atmosphere is nice.
The Swiss style with medium meet was good. The coleslaw and pickle were great. I don't like mustard so I had mine without any sauce at all but it was still a good place to eat.
This is truly the best Montreal smoked meat sandwich I have ever had! The portions are also huge and the service is great, but really the food is just absolutely awesome!!
very up like smoked meat sandwich. The meat you had to chew for 3 minutes. Besides, I felt like I was disturbing the staff who spent their time on their cell phone.

The smoked meat was not that tasty and the poutine was poor. But the beer was great. Service was good and the place was inviting, warm and pleasant.
Smoked meat poutine was delicious! Would recommend!
