Brilliant. Second time we have been there, this time with friends, and that night was the start of the truffle season so it was quite busy. Just added to the nice vibe. Fantastic French food and fantastic service. Plus the wine list is full of good stuff and you will get one you've never heard of, that's the best part. Had 3 courses and we were stuffed, so you get generous portions. I had sardines for an entree and they were great. Asked the waiter to bring me a cheese to finish of his choice. Best Camembert. We all had a great time and it's a really nice unusual place to boot. Oh and the oysters are go if they are your thing. And I had a charcuterie plate last time and that was also great....

We were having a fine night, good wine, ambience, service. Food mostly ok. But to be presented with grossly over cooked crab, that was clearly just foul mush, should have embarrassed the chef. Having sent the dish back, it was simply returned to us with the comment that the crab was fine! We know food and are lucky enough to have eaten great food around the world, including many trips to France,and also eat wonderful local Queensland seafood every week. A simple "whoops, sorry" and a fresh piece of crab would have been the appropriate response, and well accepted. But Phillipe, don't kid yourselves , that sort of attitude doesn't count for good French cuisine anywhere. So disappointing.

Lovely meal with the family. Have also enjoyed it with a big group in a more private setting. I note that couples were also enjoying their seclusion. The food is typically French with all the flavoursome sauces you would expect. The menu covers all tastes and the wine list is excellent. The service was without doubt one of the best in terms of attentiveness and speed. Our French speaking waiter was particularly sweet. A nice duck breast preceded by snails and followed by an apple tart with cream all accompanied by the smoothest Bordeaux red! What more can one ask for on a wintery night. Enjoy!!

As French food enthusiasts, were bitterly disappointed - the food is average and the service underwhelming. The 'special of the chef' chicken is anything but 'special'. Granted it was not undercooked or overcooked, but it just tasted like a normal, bland roast chicken from the supermarket. This dish was accompanied by roast potatoes, which were tasty, but there was nothing else to this dish. This was not only a disappointing meal, but the service was not very helpful or attentive. On a cold winters day we descended down to the bistro to be greeted by a charming young French man. Closely tabled like any authentic French bistro, he brought us magnificent marinated olives and fresh bread. The $40 lunch special is terrific. The most magnificent French onion soup ( chefs fathers recipe) and the restaurant signature dish - rotisseried chicken with mushroom butter under the skin. 250 ml of red or white French wine per head. Fantastic lunch with excellent service and ambience. We shall definitely be back.

Weekend in Melbourne was topped off with a fine meal at Philippe tucked around the corner in a cute lane off Collins St. We booked for 6.15pm which gave us 2 hours for dinner. The organic chicken was superb but while it cooked we were surprised with a free souffle entree by the chef. Unexpected & a treat, though it meant we had no room for dessert. Maybe next time. The portions are substantial & tasty, accompanied by a nice pinot noir.

Fantastic service. Had the prawn first (Great) followed by the Charcuterie (best one ever) before scoffing Down the duck (10/10). A great restaurant that is reasonably priced. Was so full couldn't even fit in dessert (disappointingly)

Philippe has great service & reasonable priced wines, but as we have previously commented the food is the star. The oysters are fantastic a must try. Once again had a wonderful meal & went home with very satisfied full bellies. Reserva una mesa ahora

So glad to have Phillippe back in central Melbourne. A delicious meal with very good service in a charming basement just off Collins Street. Good wine list. Looking forward to my next visit.
