The Pizzeria Salerno is one of the 1400 restaurants in Mannheim, which my wife and I have never visited in the last 10 years. We've been wondering again and again since last week, why? Culinaryly it has been getting us into the Costa Smeralda more and more often, not just because we have gathered from the Michelin community there half a year ago. We stayed at the Wyndham Mannheim while attending the German Grand Prix. Pizzeria Salerno is basically across the street. They have an interesting outdoor seating arrangement where the tables are across the street in the plaza of what appears to be one of the Mannheim synagogue. Whatever the arrangement, it works. We ate their two nights in a row. Part of it was the nice surroundings and the beautiful weather and the other was the food. Son was on a spaghetti bolognese phase and he loved it. The second night we all had their pizza and it hit the spot. Additional entertainment was watching the servers dodge cars crossing the street. Lovely setting. Really good food....and really nice people....
Just back from dinner at Pizzeria Salerno and pretty disappointed. Let's start with the positive: outdoor seating and a long list of pizze plus some other dishes. Prices were okish as we don't have any comparison for Mannheim it is difficult to say. The less positive: most of the pizze were not for vegetarians, the quality of the pizze was average at best (we had three different ones, the Margherita for example) was much too salty), and the service was slow. I stayed at the Wyndman Hotel opposite the restaurant. I was given an English menu, with a really wide choice of pizza, pasta and various other choices. I started with a salad which was served quickly and great fresh flavours. Following this I ate a pasta dish which was well cooked and tasty. Not at all greasy. Very friendly, quick service and not over priced. I recommend.
The interior is very basic and does not give a clue towards what the kitchen can achieve. Really nice staff and friendly service, a huge choice of pizza and pasta, in three different sizes. Excellent taste, close to Italian originals, and at a great value for money. Really appreciate the recommendation of our hotel nearby, and would clearly recommend.
This restaurant is hidden away, although very close to the centre of town. The staff are friendly, the prices very reasonable, and the food very good. It does all the usual pizzas and pasta dishes with the addition of some interesting salads. The portions are very generous. In short, thoroughly to be recommended.
There is a large selection (around 100 of very good priced Pizzas, Pasta and (my personal favorite al Forno dishes. The Drinks are reasonably priced as well.
