When I lived in Montebello two decades ago, Playa Baja was just a short stroll from my home. Now, whenever I'm in Los Angeles for work, I always make it a point to stop by for a meal. This restaurant specializes in Mexican comfort food and is an excellent choice for breakfast, offering a wide variety of traditional dishes. The chilaquiles are outstanding, and the must-have accompaniments like flavorful beans and fresh coffee provide the perfect start to your day. Unfortunately, the food didn't meet my expectations either. The octopus was overcooked and tough, and my companion's fish had a freezer-burned taste. While it was still edible, the lower quality was quite apparent. I had heard great things about this place from friends, but I will definitely do more research before coming back. Even though it's a local favorite with many regulars, attracting new customers requires prompt and efficient service for everyone. That's the essence of good customer service. I used to frequent this place quite a bit. About 8-10 years ago, it was one of my favorite spots, especially since I lived nearby. I returned recently after about 6-7 years, and while the food is decent, it’s not anything extraordinary. The prices are reasonable, and it has a charming hole-in-the-wall vibe. Overall, I’d rate it a 7/10. However, the potatoes were undercooked, and the beans were quite bland.

I've dined here several times, but my recent experience was disappointing. The server didn't return to check on us, forgot to bring the iced tea, and didn’t offer dessert. My husband and I love to stop by this restaurant after church to enjoy their incredible avocado tostadas. They are simply amazing! I've also sampled their enchiladas and albondigas, and both dishes are excellent. The salsa that comes with the complimentary fresh chips has the perfect level of spice.

I ordered a #30, which included a hardshell beef taco, a cheese enchilada, and a chile relleno served with rice and beans. Everything was excellent! I've visited this place a few times and haven't been let down by any of the dishes I've tried. Apologies for not having a photo to share!
