Prince Alfred Hotel

So...in my time as a Melbourne resident, PA's has change hands a few times. In 2012 the guys that owned it, they were pretty good, without being exceptional.Having moved away from Port to St Kilda I had no need to come back until just recently. The new owner, Tom, albeit a banana bender, really knows his stuff. He is a switched on publican who knows what punters want.Quality food, great specials, a tap list that doesn't bend over to the large corporates, AND LIVE MUSIC.Seriously, forget everything you know (knew!) about the old PA's and get back in here and try the new, drastically improved PA's. You will not regret it.

We went here for lunch two weekends back before going into the rugby.. we went in because of the advertising of all the craft beer out the front.. we were not disappointed, its fair to say we tried a fair few different options. If we weren't sure of options we were given a little try!! The barman on was by himself but he was winning at life!! We ended up having a furphy and burger, it was good, went well together and left us feeling satisfied.. service and beer alone makes this easy to recommend high!!

I was staying in City Rd near the overpriced casino and after spending a day around the city, getting overcharged at the casino and trundling around south bank trying to find a pub I felt comfortable in I ended up walking towards Port Melbourne and ran into the exact thing I was looking for. A good Aussie pub with good staff, a good TAB and gaming room and really good beer, perfect.

Had a work Xmas dinner here. 20 of us and for some unknown reason they picked this pub. The music , followed by the band, was so loud you had to shout to talk to the person eating next to you. Very average chicken Parma meal. You wouldn't go here for the food - everyone's meal was very very average. Carpet stunk - the place needs a good clean. Not going back! Reserva una mesa ahora

Recently under new management, I was great to see the place was cleaned up. Food was excellent and the atmosphere was welcoming. The new owners are very friendly and welcome everyone like family. Finally a pub experience just like it should be where you are treated like a person not a number. I will be bringing clients here, when next in town.

We came down for good beer week and attended the PA for the Moon Dog brewing degustation. The atmosphere was pumping and food was delicious. The new owners are doing a fantastic job at making this quaint little pub a happening place on Bay Street. Can't wait to head back there again on my next trip to Melbourne.

We enjoyed dinner and drinks at the Prince Alfred. Friendly staff, good food and nice selection from the menus. Easy parking in the area and free after 6pm.Whilst we enjoyed meals and drinks the sports on the tv's was to loud and made it difficult to talk and enjoy our company for the evening while catching up.

Saturday night with the 80's band can be a bit of fun here, I have been going every now and then for years. Went last Saturday night and again noticed the tap beer tasted off like the lines are dirty and not cold enough. This seems to be a theme of this pub regardless of who runs it. Happy courteous bar and wait staff...tasty meals...and complimentary mothers day flowers. What's not to like about this refurbed local, we have discovered. Will be back to try the $10 curry lunch in near future. Keep up the good work.

Great lunch here, good selection of burgers and all were enjoyed, great value for money, also met Ronnie the pub dog, good atmosphere and really attentive staff Do yourselves a favor go for a burger
