We hadn't been here in years. On our last visit, the owner asked how the food was. I told her it was a little greasy and was told that fish and chips are supposed to be greasy Since my family was involved in a fish...and chip shop in England, I told her I disagreed. Recently, our neighbour wanted to go to Purdy's, so off we went. It was a beautiful sunny evening with a nice breeze, lots of waves perfect setting. There was only pickerel on the menu. The chips were good, and the batter for the fish was thin and crispy. But the fish could have been anything there was absolutely no taste to the fish. And for the price we paid, it was even more disappointing. Unfortunately, this will be our last...
Whenever we are in Sarnia, we always try to get to Purdy's to see if they are open to try to get some of their delicious smoked salmon. The first time we went there, the hubby ate almost a whole fillet in the car. He...absolutely LOVED it (he's not much of a fish eater, so this is saying something for him). I bought some whitefish on the recommendation from a coworker, but haven't made it yet. I always like to browse to see what new items they might also sell on their shelves just inside the door. Staff are always so helpful and friendly, and prices are very reasonable.
I love to come to Sarnia in the summer because Purdy's is open!! We love their fresh fried perch and pickerel--fresh, fresh, fresh! The location along the St.Clair River and watching the boats go by is hard to beat on a summer afternoon. Although there...is usually a line, it goes fast. It is self-service. You line up to order at the window and then wait for your number to be called. Condiments, napkins, etc.are located near the pick up window. The fish and fries are fresh and hot. They also sell soft drinks and water.
This was recommended by a local and we were glad we got that recommendation. The fish and chips were tasty and it was reasonably priced. It's not at all fancy, but we enjoyed eating on the picnic tables along the St. Clair River and watching...lakers pass. Once we found Purdy's we make sure to visit on every trip. The pickeral is fresh and tender and fried perfectly in a crispy batter. The fries are very good as well. We usually share a large order. The picnic tables are under a canopy...on the wharf. You can eat watching the boats go by. They have a very quick, efficient Covid set up as well.
had friends from West Virginia staying with us for a few days. Decided to take them to Purdy's as they loved the blue water of Sarnia and area. The fish and chips were wonderful and sitting by the waterside was great. They enjoyed their visit...very much and thought the food was great.
Lovely view of the marina and easy access to the river if you walk down the path away from the dock. We watched people learning to water ski in an area off the pathway. Plenty of parking. Wheel chair access . Variety of seafood dishes...to please everyone. Salads were fresh.
