Queen Street Commons

Queen Street Common, an extension of The Working Centre, is unlike any other eatery I know of. Patrons include community activists, tech industry workers, local sales people, new Canadians, civic planners, journalists conducting interviews, and a mishmash of others. I'm a carnivore by nature, but I regularly have a delicious vegetarian lunch here after a yoga workout across the street at Queen's Street Yoga. As far as possible, QSC uses local ingredients and even roasts coffee beans. Prices for meals here are beyond economical; you can get a satisfying healthy meal for $5.00, including tip - yet QSC also invites people to bring their own bagged lunches and sit awhile. You don't have to be a vegetarian to enjoy the Commons. I'm a meat eater, but that doesn't mean I need meat at every meal. Mix in a salad, something made of chickpeas, or any of the many other choices, and you've got a tasty meal know what you normally eat.Today's special was Split Pea Dahl. I've never heard of that before. Since my last name is Dahl, I decided I had to try it. It was a spicy split pea and carrot concoction served over a bed of white rice. That and a house blend coffee set me back a whopping (Not) $5.85 (only $4.50 U.S.). This place has a great vibe to it. Support the Commons!

This place has simple but great food. Also you know you are doing good by eating here. It is a social enterprise that help low income people find jobs and to live a better life. Also they roast their own coffee and there is a books store and craft market. A great place for lunch.

I was surprised at how much food I could get for under $10. Chowder and toast, orzo hot pot and a salad. Very tasty. Nutritious too. Definitely has the feel of a community centre cafe. Community items for sale. Pottery, books, cards, local art, handmade crafts.

This is a great place to go for an amazing meal that is made from scratch for under $10 for drink, dinner and dessert. They also sell all sorts of products from local artists. And super friendly staff/volunteers. What more can you ask for really!

It is very cheap. And I love how quiet and relaxing it is there. I go there every Tuesday for my non violence group. It is so peaceful. I get a clear state of mind everytime I go there. I like how their food choices are so unique as well.

I eat here araound twice a month. I enjoy the atmosphere and appreciate the philosophy behind the restaurant and community space. The food is great. Their vegan brownie is incredible.

This place is fantastic - the food is always REALLY delicious and you get a lot of it for hardly any money. Spicy hummus wrap is an all-time favourite!

Good, cheap vegetarian food. I tried the pulled squash and mango un-sandwich, a lemon-lentil salad, and rhubarb pie. All were delicious!
