Nepalese is a type of food I hadn't had before, but after having a Nepalese Lamb starter and two main dishes, at Rara, I'll be looking forward to having it again. We also had lamb as one of our mains, and saag paneer, which were both very good. The starter bordered on being too spicy, but stayed just within bounds for me. When the owner came to check on us, he may have judged our slow progress with the starter as a statement about the spiciness, and the second two dishes had no spice at all. So, when you go, I'd suggest specifying your pepper desires, which by all accounts they will be more than happy to satisfy. From the moment I tasted the dips I knew I was in for a treat. I was munching away at the poppodums and tried the mint yoghurt, it was made with fresh mint! Very few places do that these days, and the other dip was tamarind not the usual store bought mango chutney. For my starter I had grilled lamb tandoori. Again all fresh herbs and the dish generally had a very clean and fresh flavour. For the main course I went for the old favourite, chicken tikka masala, and I wasn`t disappointed, very tasty and not too sweet. Great Nepalese food, which is similar to Indian, however I find that the individual spices come through much better in the flavour. Think of it as Indian food refined. At least that is the case at Rara. Great selection of dishes, along with a full menu page of spicy dishes titled 'Some like it hot '! Well I certainly do, so that was a big plus point for me. Some recommended dishes: Chilli chicken starter Jhalfrezi chicken main (not your average Jhalfrezi) Lemon rice Plain Naan All outstanding and tasty, we finished everything!
Fantastic dine-in meal this evening. I had the Royal Rara with peshwari naan and my partner had the lamb korma, with mushroom rice and plain naan. The service was excellent and the prices reasonable, but the food, crikey, exceptional. The Royal Rara was a stunning dish, and I would definitely have this again. Absolutely blown away by this food. Light and clean with some of the best spices I have tasted in my life. We also had some of the kindest and most thoughtful service I have experienced. I would come back to London just to eat here again. Highly recommended!!!
This restaurant is absolutely amazing! Every dish we tried was superb, with fantastic flavors and multiple layers of taste. I particularly loved the Chicken Chili, Aloo Phool Gobi, and Raita. And to top it off, the staff were all attentive and friendly.
I had never tried Nepalese cuisine before, and it was a pleasant surprise. The staff were extremely attentive and helpful, answering all of our questions before we even had a chance to ask. It was the perfect way to end a long day at Kew Gardens.
This restaurant served some of the best Indian food we've ever tasted. The pre-appetizer they brought out was delicious. The staff was extremely friendly. We will definitely be returning in the future.
