Rasthaus Am Mittag

Nomen est omen. The “Rasthaus am Mittag” naturally promises some hearty lunches and some hearty way-cave – but it is simply on the so-called Mittagberg, high above Immenstadt, in the middle of the Allgäuer Nagelfluhkette. Actually, on the middle station of the chairlift, which is already at 1100 meters high. Here you can either walk up on foot from Immenstadt in about an hour or walk up comfortably with the chairlift for foot-sicks and seniors and children. The mountainous alpine hut boasts a lot of wood and shingles, a very cosy dining room and a sunny outdoor terrace and a few sun loungers, on the slopes. But there is a lot to experience for children: an extraordinary playground – partly based on sophisticated armchair lift parts – tempts to drive around if the dear little ones are not yet exhausted from high speeds. I had to say that the area is also very attractive in winter, but even at the beginning of August 2017 was a guest here. And, despite the grandiose menu, unfortunately, only allowed me to take a big drink to a squirting juice choir, because I have already planned a longer return on the Sennalpe Oberberg. It will also be discussed here on Gastroguide. According to the appendage and homepage, “Anneliese and Benno” are responsible for the management of the resthouse at noon, while I first accidentally held Benno for the surrounding Bernhardiner, who roamed behind every butterfly and every flower. But Benno stands behind the vault, is quite determined and a bit of word-carg and probably the man or partner of Anneliese. Of course, here is self-service. Unfortunately, the food offer does not depend, but must be viewed on the printed menu. And you do not feel bad: in fact, hot and cold meals are offered throughout – and that at daily! Opening hours from 10:00 to 20:00. Oh, there would have protested the union elsewhere, down in the valley... I'm afraid I'm gonna have to lift the cats for another visit. The flame cakes and the lush sausage and fatty breadboards. On the beer tables around me on a Tuesday at noon I mainly see young families with smaller children. Fritten, Wiener Würstle and Schnitzel are fed. Classic and simple. And all of them are sitting outside, because after a long period of bad weather the sun finally shines. But also the cozy interior invites you around the year: wooden ceiling, rustic wall panelling, modern tile stove, round-round wooden benches with red-plated seating, rustic table decoration. All by the way, quite proper and well maintained. I don't know if there are your own toilets at lunchtime. I definitely used the well and clearly signposted, which are located below the middle station of the chairlift and are just a few steps away. In any case, my appreciation applies to the continuous readiness of the dedicated host people who probably don't even get out of the area. The location is also open to family parties, club parties and school class excursions. There are accommodation options in a bed camp in bunk beds, which I did not look at. The whole house looks relatively modern and has probably been built or renewed only in recent years. Whoever is responsible for the exterior design, especially the game equipment all around: great performance, original design, very child-friendly. A few decades ago, I would certainly be freaked out here! Now I'm still sitting in the swings and swinging courageously into the Allgäu sky. This place is recommended for people of all ages and every culinary taste! Around the year!
