The historic building from 1560 is located on Wiedenbrück's market square in the heart of the medieval old town. I have been there for dinner a few times now. The service staff was always warm and welcoming. The service was outstandingly friendly and attentive in a nice way. The historic restaurant room inside is perhaps worth a visit in its own right. The food was always freshly prepared and very tasty. Some dishes might be borderline to being overly complicated whereas others are straight forward, well executed traditional cuisine. We had the most enjoyable dinner in the Ratskeller Wiedenbruck dining room. The room itself is a most comfortable place to dine. The dark paneled walls are very welcoming. The menu offered many choices and everything we tried was very good. I had asparagus and veal cutlet (schnitzel). It was delicious. My sister enjoyed the filet of beef and she said it was good as any steak she has had in Nebraska. My husband enjoyed the wiener schnitzel and said it was also outstanding. We will certainly eat her again whenever we visit Wiedenbruck.
Came to have a look around as my mother in law wanted to show us where she had her leaving party. Hearing we were English, the waitress quite sharply declared there was no space to eat. My father in law commenced with fluent German and her attitude completely changed. Obviously there was still no space but she explained why and for how long. Perhaps it was just a language barrier.It is a lovely building though.
I have just posted a review of the Raktskeller in the Romantik Hotel under the hotel heading. Our experience in the Ratskeller was excellent, hosted, as it was, by the friendly landlord who made us feel welcome from the beginning. Great food, great wine and excellent beer (try the Landbier). Went here during my holiday in Rheda. And I am really glad I did! This is one of the best restaurants if ate the last few months. Wonderful duck liver and super Tournedos. Also the wine (Sauternes and Tempranillo) was superb and relatively cheap as well. Will certainly come back here when in the area.
